OpEd: Who is the Mayor of West Hollywood?

You are invited to meet Mayor John Erickson, on Saturday Feb. 22nd at Plummer Park.   The event posted earlier this week and scheduled for next week.   But the Mayor of West Hollywood is Chelsea Byers.

Byers was selected as the next Mayor on December 16th, 2024.   She was sworn into office on January 21st, 2025.  West Hollywood is a general law city that is governed by an elected city council whose job is to advise the city manager on policy.   The Mayor’s job is mostly ceremonial rotating each year among each city council member.

When Chelsea Byers was officially selected to be the next Mayor of West Hollywood on December 16th, 2024 she became the Mayor-elect.    Both council members had plenty of time to update their social media profiles.   The cities public information office appears to either approve of the dis-information or is doing a very poor job.

I reached out to Mayor Byers but received a reply from Council member Erickson that I was ‘causing drama’.   My reply to John indicated my disappointment that Mayor Byers could not answer for herself.  A few seconds later Mayor Byers called and told me in a very terse tone, ‘facebook didn’t update his profile’ she said.  “I’m going into a meeting, are we clear?” and quickly hung up.   My request to follow up was ignored.   The tone and lack of transparency forced this story to be published.   It’s like she was defending the wrong information posted or didn’t care instead of saying thanks for pointing it out.

It’s not the first time a former West Hollywood Mayor continued to parade as the Mayor.  Former West Hollywood Council member Lindsey Horvath carried the title well into her run for county office when Lauren Meister had already assumed the the Mayor’s role.   In 2022 Mayor Sepi Sbyne used her title to launch her run for United States Senate.   Council member Erickson seems to be following in the same footsteps as he prepares to launch his run for the California State Senate to replace Ben Allen. Allen will term out in 2026.   A person with close ties to Ben Allen’s office told WEHOonline that Erickson’s announcement is expected in the next few days or weeks.

In the meantime, looks like we have two Mayors, at least for today.

Chelsea Byers flirtation with overt anti-semitism is a danger to the many Jewish residents of West Hollywood. Shyne and Erickson proved that even the most incompetent of people can be mayor of West Hollywood.

Sadly it’s very clear to me that our major is anti semite Byers. Some would argue that we have already gone through two years of anti semitic majors so guess no worrying about getting used to it.

If I recall correctly, John Duran kept the title of mayor on Twitter, possibly after he lost reelection, until someone requested he take it down.

Not at all surprised. It’s how he would get laid. (“Ever sleep with the mayor?”)

The kids on the prom committee, err, city council, acting out in immature ways are the ones causing the drama; the media merely report on and expose that drama, a/k/a dirty laundry. Do better, children.

Erickson & Byers – both immature clowns. Union bought and paid for.

West Hollywood is the same as the female dog at a puppy mill. She gets abused to the benefit of a pimp. Thanks MAYORS. Don’t slip on the way up. We are watching. Fraud, waste & abuse.

I think it’s a little mean to take John to task for clinging to the title, since I think it’s as about as high as he will get.
