LGBT Parents Group Celebrates 5-Year Anniversary

LGBT Parents Group is hosting a Brunch Party this Saturday, March 1st at 10am to celebrate their 5-year anniversary. The City of West Hollywood will be presenting founder Darryl Sher with a proclamation, recognizing the group’s dedication to building community connection. There will be entertainment for kids, which will start at 10:20am.

The group started in March 2020. When Covid lockdowns kicked off, a small group of families started meeting at playgrounds to let their kids burn off some energy. When those shut down, they shifted to parks. But as restrictions tightened and parks closed too, the crew moved their hangouts to private spots—homes, pools, and hot tubs. Eventually, though, the cops stepped in and that put an end to it.

Now that restrictions loosening up, the group has taken off. They’ve moved from weekly get-togethers to monthly events, and have grown to over 50 LGBT families. Based in West Hollywood, the group welcomes new LGBT folks into the fold.

Update: The brunch was a wonderful time for all. Later on, after the confetti settled, Darryl Sher had this to say about the morning get-together:

Our 5th Anniversary Brunch Party was another fun-filled event, featuring entertainment from Queen Angelina. Officer Raygoza from the Sheriff’s Office also stopped by to showcase his squad car decals and handed out junior officer stickers to the kids.

To cap off the celebration, Councilmember Danny Hang presented our group with a Certificate of Recognition, which reads:

The Supreme Court’s overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022 set a very dangerous precedent impacting LGBTQ+ Rights and many other civil rights cases, including the landmark cases that established marriage equality and the right to privacy.

Some related cases now highly endangered:

Obergefell v. Hodges: Established marriage equality
Lawrence v. Texas: Established the right to privacy in your home
Griswold v. Connecticut: Grants access to birth control

Project 2025‘s goals are to Overturn LGBTQ+ Marriage & Rights and Criminalize Birth Control.
