Council member John Erickson has filed the necessary paperwork to run for the California State Senate representing District 24. The seat is currently occupied by State Senator Ben Allen who will finish his final term under California’s term limit in November 2026.
Senate District 24 includes the cities of Agoura Hills, Beverly Hills, Calabasas, El Segundo, Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Hidden Hills, Lomita, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Santa Monica, Torrance, West Hollywood, and Westlake Village; the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Bel Air, Beverly Grove, Brentwood, Fairfax, Holmby Hills, Hollywood, Hollywood Hills, Little Holmby, Mid City West, Pacific Palisades, Playa del Rey, Sunset Hills, Venice, Westwood, and Westwood Village; and the unincorporated Los Angeles County communities of the Santa Monica Mountains and Marina Del Rey.

Erickson’s filing allows him to begin the process of fundraising for the June 2026 primary runoff. Should Erickson prevail in his quest for the California State Senate, the remaining members of the West Hollywood City Council may approve a temporary appointment to the city council or hold a special election to fill the vacant seat in early 2027.
Three other candidates have filed to also run to replace Ben Allen in District 24. They include Mike Newhouse of Venice Beach, and Brittany McKinley. a Human Relations Commissioner for the City of Los Angeles.
Good for John.
He’s matured quite a bit.
Too bad he’s not good at anything else he has to keep running for office
Soros flunkies have used West Hollywood as a boot on the neck for how long now? 10-15 years?
To borrow one of John’s own snark greatest hits–Shocker! Remember when he pledged in front of a live audience to complete his full four-year term if reelected? I also remember when told me that he had no idea that the ericksonforsenate.com domain name was registered way last summer (I have the email!). Erickson’s capacity for mendacity is breathtaking.
Not that we didn’t see that one coming. And not that we can’t see the outcome. He is way more of a Sepi than he is a Lindsey (like her or loathe her you can’t say she’s not smart, effective, and personable.) WeHo should ger smart and make it the law that if an elected official want to run for higher office they must resign their seat to do so.
I can just imagine how Erickson’s personal brand of bottle-blond bitchiness will go over in Hermosa, Torrance and PV..
This rat has no place making decisions on behalf of anyone.
First bit of advise for Jonny as he embarks on a higher office, learn to control your temper the day after a late night of partying. His raised voice last night was inappropriate and he would have been better off calling in sick, rather than showing up to a meeting all irritable and raty, after a night out for the Oscars. Simmer down Jonny, simmer down.
No. God help us no. The blustery clown will continue to draw a paycheck from the City of West Hollywood as he runs for higher office after only just re-elected. Why should West Hollywood finance this clown’s state senate run? Nope. No. Never. No damn way. Of course after Erickson’s Weaver’s Walk vote yesterday, we know exactly where to find him with his hand out.
And there you go. He knew when he ran just a few months ago for a seat on our city council that he was going to run for state senate. He doesn’t give a rats ass about West Hollywood. What he cares about is the next stepping stone to climb the political ladder. I hope he fails miserably. He’s not someone who cares about the people of West Hollywood, he cares about power and his political ambitions.
