On Wednesday, co-founder and CEO of Green Qween Taylor Bazley addressed the West Hollywood Business License Commission, describing the new cannabis dispensary: “We’ve got a custom five-foot disco ball, which is huge next to a person… That’s going to be the entire jewel of the second story, basically, of the building with dichromatic sheeting around it.” Bazley requested an amendment to Condition No. 18 of Resolution No. BLC24-0005, which requires the business to begin operations within 60 days of approval, for the location at 802 San Vicente Boulevard.
Item 7A was the primary agenda item, addressing a delay caused by an expired lease and a state licensing requirement. In September 2024, the commission approved the transfer of cannabis licenses from Eric Kinney to Tristan Schukraft, along with the relocation of the business from 8464 Santa Monica Boulevard to 802 San Vicente Boulevard. The Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) required a new license rather than a modification, a process Bazley said could extend into June 2025. “It’s for all intents and purposes a brand new business,” he explained, noting changes to the location, ownership, name, branding, and furniture.
Bazley stated, “The furniture is $200,000 for a 450-square-foot store.” He added that the building is on a corner “caddy corner to Rocco,” and a mural by artist Patrick Church will cover the exterior, as mentioned in a prior September meeting. He listed products tailored for West Hollywood, responding to Vice-Chair Eng’s question about inventory: “The penis bongs fly off the shelves… I’m always, like, staff where the penis bongs are, they sold out.” Other items include suppositories, lube, bath bombs, and “boob bongs for the lesbian community,” with Bazley noting, “We’re definitely including all the kind of, like, fun extra elements that we can… an element of fun and self-exploration, a little bit of something for everything.”
Bazley had targeted an April 20 opening—“420 is what I was really shooting for”—but the DCC’s environmental review, which took three months for his Sherman Oaks store, delayed plans to Pride in June. “I always knew it was going to be tight to open up that business,” he said, detailing progress: furniture delivery scheduled for April 8, a mural permit secured, and half-wall permits nearly obtained with help from city staff, including an employee named Derek. He noted the state’s timeline as the primary obstacle: “It just takes a long time.” Vice-Chair Eng responded, “If you don’t make Pride, you can always do 710, which, for those who don’t know, is another weed holiday that is really not that known.”
Commissioners asked clarifying questions. Commissioner Eisenberg confirmed the timeline shift, and Commissioner Cockeram inquired about readiness. Bazley affirmed, “We’re totally ready to take it on… well-established distribution channels in cannabis,” mentioning a drag queen inventory manager and a prepared corporate team. Public comment from JP Dupree opposed the extension, stating, “It doesn’t seem like it’s happening on any sort of acceptable timeline.” Bazley began to respond from the back of the room: “No, I would just note that I’m not actually asking for an additional extension.” A commissioner interrupted, stating, “You’ll need to approach the podium, please.” Bazley complied, continuing, “No, just the clarification that I put out there…” As he approached, he was heard saying, “sorry, I should know better.”
The commission approved the extension to September 28, 2025, with the option for two additional six-month periods, voting unanimously. The decision allows Green Qween more time to navigate state licensing requirements and complete its relocation.
Cute! Can’t wait to check it out! I’ve been needing a new bong lol. Nice to see a weed store put effort and intention on the aesthetic rather than just looking like any other smoke shop
Sounds a tax write off gimmick when you spend $200,000 on furniture for a postage stamp sized “store.”
Sorry but why does the consumer care if you spent 200k on furniture for such a small store? We all know costs like these will be passed off to us in the cost of your goods sold. Also thes is quickly going to become an eyesore..so 10 years ago in the esthetics of the design.
Of course they approved it. It’ll be a lovely improvement and a much needed asset for the neighborhood. (Insert eye roll)
