West Hollywood’s Business License Commission will be up in smoke tonight with cannabis dispensaries dominating the agenda.
First, the commission will decide whether to award a new type of permit to two Santa Monica Blvd. dispensaries — Medmen WeHo and Zen WeHo.
Both are applying for a Legacy Medical Cannabis Business License.
The Legacy license was created specifically for the four original medical cannabis dispensaries in WeHo. Since January 2018, those four dispensaries have also been operating and selling “adult-use” cannabis by way of a temporary use permit. The Legacy license allows for the medical dispensaries to continue to sell adult-use cannabis.
Adult-use is a term used to describe cannabis that can be grown, purchased, and consumed by people 21 and older. Medical cannabis can be sold to people 18 and older. The city’s adult-use and medical-use designations forbid on-site consumption of cannabis.
The Commission will then go over the Cannabis Consumption license application for Fantom Flower, a new edibles-only lounge set to open on 8811 Santa Monica Boulevard, the former home of Flaming Saddles.
The Commission has scheduled a virtual public hearing to discuss Fantom Flower tomorrow evening at 6 p.m.
Among the applicants seeking licensing for Fantom Flower is Academy Award-winning actress Patricia Arquette.
City staff has recommended a continuance on the item until next month.
Documents also mentioned the city has received eight applications for marijuana licenses since March of this year.
