I’m a Black and have been a resident of west Hollywood for 15 years. I’m not a “gang banger” “ghetto” or any of the other things Black people are being called here. I love my neighborhood, have never felt unsafe, or that the neighborhood is going down. I won’t be coming to this comment section again and I’m frankly disgusted at the racist language being allowed here “third world from Glendale” for Armenians “ghetto” for Black people. Luckily I’ve never felt this kind of racism living in Weho and I wonder how many commenters actually live here.

The city permits clubs, hotel bars, and restaurants that bring in ghetto-a** types to operate because of the tax money they bring in. That won’t end.
It’s up to the management of these establishments to stop hosting events that bring ghetto-a** folks (white, black, brown, Puerto-Rican or Haitian) or else this will keep happening. Not like they’re big spenders anyway and security guards are expensive. No, they do not live in West Hollywood.

Also – can real estate owners in Fairfax Village and on Melrose stand together and stop renting to sneaker stores? same ghetto-a** folks causing problems.

There is a difference in a racIST comment and a racIAL one. People like greeneyedguy say that any comment about race is racist. They don’t have the critical thinking skills to know they are not the same.

Absolutely not true. Generalizing a whole race of people in a negative way is racist. How do you not understand that as an adult? It’s very simple.

In what way have I generalized about a race of people? Because you are reading things into what I’ve said that isn’t there it appears to me your assumptions are racist.

I have talked only about behavior and that those who are likely to behave inappropriately or even criminally are not that hard to recognize in advance.

Even Jesse Jackson commented on profiling vs. probability:

Anyone that does not believe the reality of this should venture down to the “sneaker ghetto” at Rosewood & Fairfax and over to Melrose in front of and east Fairfax High. Wander through the clouds of cannabis and then come back and tell us what a great time that was shuckin & jivin with the Yeezy followers because it is some kind of perverted celebrity-ism which they term the Yeezy Mafia. Just the kind of place you would want to have lunch. They became a flash point during the BLM marches and have hunkered down. The police have proven to… Read more »

Dublins that used to be Harper & Sunset started having more nights that catered to an urban crowd then the crime in the neighborhood increased. It’s about what was happening by whom. … Saying it’s racist is an easy out and unfair to the law-abiding African American crowd.

Geeze, just when the regular death tolls for people getting hit by speeding cars on Fountain, now we have to watch out for random shooting sprees on Fountain.

Statistics: CRIME begets more crime in any neighborhood or specific areas.

Not any definitive studied conclusion by this universal statistic, WHEN CRIME RISES, IT GROWS FAST IN THE SAME VICINITY.

YIKES!

I agree with you Jonathan! Many Violent crimes, stabbings, gun shooting battles and gunned armed robberies, rapes and gay bashings, and breaking and entering, Along with deadly and near fatal hit and runs! What a dubious distinction the city of Weho is becoming! The moniker becoming The Crime City never mind The Creative City.

Absolutely, I agree with your spot on assessment and accurate points of contention about crime increasing in West Hollywood and I fully share your sentiments and concerns of the dismal outlook/ statistics on crime and lack of priority when it comes to public safety! You are spot on noticing the propensity of the crime in this area since the onset of the pandemic with increased shootings and violent robberies that have or could have ended in murder! It is in the very least serious enough to have sheriffs have foot patrol on sunset fountain and and the very most is… Read more »

Is there an update of who these folks were, their residence and what were they up to at 4:40 am? Being awakened before dawn blocks away by presumably a news helicopter should produce a few details. West Hollywood has put out the doormat and sent invitations to every type of gangbanger seeking excitement on the Sunset Strip. Think back to last year with marches, riots and mayhem….that was only the beginning. West Hollywood has become a self designed and digitally engineered billboard and/or Instagram selfie for bad experience one could think of. One of our current City Council Members thinks… Read more »

call it raciest or what ever when the House of Blues closed down our neighborhood returned to normalcy. Gone was the loud behavior vandalism and criminal activity. Before the former Studio One closed down the sheriffs had to deploy numerous units on the La Peer side until three or four in the morning to monitor the patrons outside of the club. If venues insist on catering to undesirables they should be required to provide security around the club and adjacent community until the last patron has departed the area

I lived in a nice area in the Valley for several years, but there was spill-over of people in nearby areas who came into my neighborhood to create havoc like this. I moved to West Hollywood to get away from all that, but now it is in happening here in WeHo all around me. This incident was just a few yards from where I live. I don’t want to be the kind of person who pre-judges when I see a certain type, but I hate that repeated experiences have made me that way. I’ve learned that it’s not profiling; it’s… Read more »

Years ago, when there had been a rise in crime in WeHo and especially after Ramon Estrada had been murdered on his way home from Gold Coast Bar, I went to a City Council meeting. In the discussion of it one of the c.c. members (I don’t remember now which one as I was fairly new to WeHo then) advised everyone that “when you see someone who looks like they don’t belong here ….. “, and I also don’t remember what they said to do about it. No one appeared to be offended by that because we all knew exactly… Read more »

It’s not profiling; it’s probability!

Your constant name calling is really uncalled for and shows your level of maturity. It’s interesting that every time you disagree with somebody you scream “boomer“ or “maga.” There was a time when the buck stopped with the person(s) in charge. There’s nothing wrong with turning to the city council (you know, the group of five people that were elected to actually run the city) and demand that they do something to fix a problem. And right now the growing crime situation is a problem. Their silence on the subject and their inaction is a problem. Are they more concerned… Read more »

Increase sheriff patrols thru the neighborhood. How about putting some sheriffs walking the beat on Santa Monica Blvd. during weekend evenings. There’s a couple for ya. Now stop the bullying, the profiling and the name calling. You want to have a conversation, debate the topics in the news, fine. Otherwise, not interested.
