The City of West Hollywood will honor veterans and active members of the United States Armed Forces during a virtual presentation of its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place exclusively online on the City of West Hollywood’s WeHoTV YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/wehotv.

“This year’s City of West Hollywood Veterans Day commemoration theme is honoring women veterans and we are honored to have a keynote speaker from the Foundation for Women Warriors join us,” said City of West Hollywood Mayor Lauren Meister. “I want to personally thank all of the veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. We appreciate all of our service members for what they’ve done for our country so that we, and future generations, can enjoy our freedoms. I hope this Veterans Day brings love, hope, and peace.”

Community members are invited to join City officials and City staff members online in honoring our local veterans. Representatives from local veterans’ organizations will be in attendance, and Jodie Grenier, CEO of the Foundation for Women Warriors will speak as part of the event.

During the program, which this year will feature the theme Salute to Women Veterans, members of the West Hollywood City Council will recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The event will feature the Pledge of Allegiance, a bugler playing Taps, and a moment of silence followed by The Star-Spangled Banner, the national anthem of the United States.

The Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial, located on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Holloway Drive, will be decorated with wreaths and American flags. The City welcomes community members to visit the Memorial to pay their respects.

This city’s leadership is an embarrassment.

Lindsey Horvath just issued a self serving fund raising message about Veterans noting several in her family while discrediting those in West Hollywood. Where was her leadership in maintaining the respectful tradition of honoring our own, an event meaningful to the veterans and a fine example of leadership tradition.

Missing in action, too concerned with self image. A black star for Ms. Horvath and her fellow council members.

Not too late for the City to change this reprehensible error and claim responsibility. This is an event extremely meaningful to the Veteran’s, something surely to be noticed by the students of WH Elementary and should not be diminished to benefit convenience for the uninformed and whoever made the decision.

Meanwhile they have no problem holding a press conference with a large group to tout their highest minimum wage in the country. Disgusting.

The world is getting back. Every day I have live and in person meetings. We mask and we work. This virtual Veterans Day celebration is an insult to veterans here and an embarrassment to the City of West Hollywood. This city council has cut ribbons at hamburger joints, vegan joints, danced at the Abbey sans mask months ago and can’t attend a live veterans celebration. Really? Pathetic. Disgusting really.

Yes, thank you Veterans!! I don’t know why we have to honor them virtually when bars are packed. I certainly hope the city puts more of an effort in to honoring our veterans than they did for the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 – which was basically nothing but throwing up a banner that actually thanked those that served in the armed forces and had nothing to do with 9/11 – SHAMEFUL.

This would have been a very meaningful ceremony to experience in public. For the city to reduce it to virtual is a grave error.

Yup. How are our young people supposed to learn the importance of Veteran’s Day when we reduce it to a “virtual presentation.” (but meanwhile are bars are packed. SHAMEFUL)

Why virtually? Why not have an outdoor ceremony?

Because it means very little to our city “leaders.”
