The Standard has been sold, will be renamed

The Standard in West Hollywood has been sold to two hotel moguls and will re-open with a new name, according to reports.

Ian Shrager, the developer behind the Public and the Edition hotels, and Ed Scheetz, founder of the Chelsea hotels, are reportedly in contract to purchase the real estate and the operating lease. They also purchased signage rights, which will let them generate revenue via billboard advertisements, according to the Real Deal.

Many residents want to see the 139-room hotel designated an official “cultural resource” of the city. The Standard has been closed since 2021.

Let me know when they have a furnishing sale! I’d love to buy a couple of the bean bags and bedside lamps.

I love that your only reference to Studio 54 and drug use is Donald Trump. You don’t mention Calvin Klein, Halston, Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Bianca Jagger, etc. etc. etc. Actually, everyone there, including myself EXCEPT Donald Trump. I welcome a national divorce so that I can be legally separated from the deranged and unhinged.

Let’s see, that was right after Joe Biden joined forces with members of the Klan in the Senate against bussing in his fight against desegregation. And right before sponsoring the Social Security tax. His only two accomplishments in 47 years.

Many folks do not remember before it was the Standard, it was a “old folks retirement home’ sitting on incredibly valuable real estate on Sunset Blvd, in the heart of the action.

I sure remember the weeds around the property after the old folks home went defunct.
Cheers to continued property maintenance and some life again on my street.
