WeHo ranked near bottom of Safest California Cities … again

West Hollywood was ranked 212th of out 230 on the annual Safest California Cities list published by Safewise.com.

WeHo trailed behind cities such as San Diego (99th), Burbank (107th), Inglewood (194th), Los Angeles (200th) and Sacramento (211th), but is apparently a safer place than Palm Springs (213th), Bakersfield (221st), Compton (225th) and Oakland (230th).

WeHo had a 5.6 rating of violent crime while property crimes were a shocking 32.8. Overall, it was an improvement over last year, when WeHo was ranked 226th out of 230.

It would be nice if we could compare where WeHo was on the list in 2019, and earlier. I searched the site. No archives. My guess is that it has already been towards the bottom of the list, with our population density, and location, in a major metropolitan area. Of course, rural and less population-dense cities are going to have lower crime rates, for the most part. I recently read that Bakersfield holds the crown for the most stolen vehicles in the country, or maybe it was the state. I’m not saying that crime hasn’t gone up. I’m saying that… Read more »

The city is run by radicals whose aim is to destroy, not protect. And they do so with kickbacks and distracting the public with silly identity politics and empty virtue signaling. Until people wake up from these Marxist 101 tactics and realize we are being fleeced by careers criminals in our local gov’t, it will keep getting worse. And worse!

And the local CNN (lowest ranked in the nation for news, highest ranked for fake news) mouthpiece never fails to show up.

I think what you mean to say is the city is inhabited by fascists (mostly). My first witness will be the comment by GEG below. Any thought that is against the mantra of the mass psychosis is deemed to eb from ‘FOX’ or such. Logic and civility is not in the thought process whatsoever. Conform or be verbally assaulted. People who talk about “Marxism” usually don’t know what it means. Marxism is about “the masses” and masses mean conformity; see contemporary Rebolshevik party. “Identity” is about individualism, which is anathema to conformists. But keep telling yourself you know what you meant to say. Fits your cultural affinity group, which is very conformist.

Both WeHo and Bomb Springs are down near the bottom of the list. That’s telling in itself. Even Inglewood beats WeHo! What a laugher….

THE question has to be WHY? What is the City, and/or the LASD not doing that they could be doing better to keep the city safe? Are drug and alcohol abuse arrest as good they they could be to protect citizens? Are the Sheriff’s spending too much time at the station instead of being out in the community? WHY do so many Sheriff’s have to show up for every criminal event 5-6-7 or more cars with 2+ Deputies in each car, often with guns drawn? WHO is keeping tabs on the LASD in WeHo?

*cracks knuckles* LASD sends so many cars because in this burgh they need to have the investigating deputies, security for the deputies, and deputies who act as commissars so that way they can show the public everything was done on the level. Because the majority-Hispanic law enforcement agency is racist or whatever. Our DA won’t prosecute people if they meet certain criteria. And there are credible questions as to the veracity of his election. The SHE support said DA, to the best of my recollection. I’d love for all 5 city councilmen and women to denounce him publicly on the… Read more »

Does your weird capitalization in “police reform” have any particular meaning or is it just an attention-getting device for a point that makes no actual sense?

Strange that you are blaming LASD for the rise in crime.

You, sir, are a wise and brilliant man. Both of you, actually. And I bet, as I too am wise and brilliant, suspect you’re both unreasonably good looking, and the trifecta intimidates our lesser-capable, mush-minded fellow residents.

And it still can be. But we need an engaged public to insure oversight and a notion that “professionalism” is does not exclude empathy and compassion. In my experience we have a great many examples of “professionalism” within the ranks at our station but we definitely need to change the culture at the top of the organization to bring it into the modern era of law enforcement.

Well that didn’t take long. Delusional hate Trump fanatics while ignoring the hard facts of the crime stats of EVERY city run by the lunatic Far Left.

Why don’t we have our own police department instead of the Worst Sheriffs Dept. They were horrible in malibu never showing up when needed. And here we have a homophobic group of Sherif and lazy group. Too many units showing up for small reasons. (Aside far too many parking ticketed- another group). Beverly Hills has their own and we have pay for bad Home security. From my experience, I thought lost hills sheriff were cruel but this group is worst and a club of lazy people 1- wouldn’t take a gun I found 2-didn’t come when I was jumped 3-… Read more »

Finally, someone gives some concrete examples. Would like know why you think they’re homophobic though. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with West Hollywood’s Sheriff, and I’m a big queen. In fact, the Sheriff’s department has gone out of their way to help me. Also not sure which city’s police department or sheriff you’re talking about in each example.

Arguing about statistics misses the point. We have recently had less crime in some areas, more in others, and more overall. It’s how we deal with this crime that we need to address. Otherwise, everyone will be arguing about how to interpret statistics until the end of time. If communities don’t feel safe and want more deputies, they should be able to get more deputies.

Statistics can be helpful but also misused. There is always the assumption that they are accurate. Crime stats are particularly problematic as sometimes deputies won’t take reports; other times people won’t or don’t report crimes for all sorts of reasons. If people’s fears are “over-wrought” it is only because the City Council has been so dismissive. It is our tax money so we should be able to spend it on priorities that the community demands rather than the various vanity projects we have seen lately.

Interesting, West Hollywood gets #212 and WeHo East (Palm Springs) gets #213.
