Emerald Village brings ‘Come Out for Cannabis’ to WeHo’s Pride celebrations

Emerald Village West Hollywood cannabis travel and tourism board is preparing for the Pride 2022 season by encouraging cannabis users to show their pride for pot with the launch of the “Come Out for Cannabis” campaign during the month of June.

“Come Out for Cannabis” draws parallels between the quest for decriminalization of cannabis and the struggle for gay rights inspired by Gay rights icons like Harvey Milk who implored his community to “Come Out” and be visible to influence friends, colleagues and neighbors and build empathy for LGBTQ+ rights. Emerald Village West Hollywood will ask the public to “Come Out for Cannabis” with social media campaigns and branded merchandise which will be distributed to guests at the booth activations at both WeHo Pride and Long Beach Pride Festivals.

“Cannabis users have been stigmatized by society and even the government much like LGBTQ+ people for decades. Cannabis icons such as Cheech and Chong or Snoop Dog are often the archetypes of what people think a cannabis user is. However, the truth is that cannabis users, in general, reflect broader society as a whole both in their racial and socioeconomic profiles” said Scott Schmidt, Executive Director of Emerald Village West Hollywood. “It may be an 80-year-old grandmother using cannabis to mitigate the side effects of chemotherapy, or an elite athlete using cannabis to assist with muscle recovery, cannabis users span a broad spectrum of society. “Come Out for Cannabis” aims to celebrate all cannabis users and the cannabis destinations you can explore right here in the Emerald Village.”

In addition to the campaign Emerald Village West Hollywood will host the first ever Queen of the Emerald Village Pride Month drag competition hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 8 contestant Naysha Lopez and Season 9 contestant Kimora Blac. The inaugural competition benefitting Being Alive LA, a nonprofit client-driven organization focusing on the mental health and wellness of people living with HIV and AIDS, is a month long pageant for local drag performers to fundraise, host public meet & greet appearances at cannabis retailers and lounges, and collect public votes for a chance to be crowned as West Hollywood’s Queen of the Emerald Village until Pride 2023. This year’s local drag contestants include Jazlyn Alezae, Jasmine Simone Eschelon, Cake Moss and Flabbergast. Fans will have a chance to watch the contestants perform at a kick-off event at The Artist Tree Studio Consumption Lounge Sunday, May 22 5-7pm and closing ceremony Sunday, June 26 for the crowning of the winner. Ticket sales will be available via See Tickets.

No one asks what Jeff Consoletti has to do with this. Is he applauded for his rejuvenation of Pride while relinquishing responsibility?

Comparing the supposed oppression of potheads to the real struggles of LGBT people throughout history is weak, lame, and offensive. Not to mention, stupid and sounds like pandering. I want LGBT pride and visibility in my neighborhood. I do NOT want this Emerald City crap in my neighborhood. Don’t we have enough of a problem with crime? People should smoke their pot at home. They shouldn’t be allowed to smoke out in public. West Hollywood should not become an international destination for pot tourism. This is crazy. We live here. We can only look forward to increased DUIs and increased… Read more »

Scott Schmidt appears to be a perpetual bottom feeder looking for the next hand to feed him, any hand will do even though it may be destructive to the “overall” community. Please straighten up and fly right if you care about integrity which is the only thing that is of value in the end.

“Not MAGA people but respectable people that are offended by having their city hijacked by silliness and crime through lack of leadership.”

What kind of society do we live in when it is becomes a great idea to promote this weed garbage message? Emerald City? WTF? Yes, this is a smart strategy to convert our town into smoked out town. AND how much influence will these new weed companies have on the city council? We’ve already witnessed the “distance from a dispensary to a public park or school” argument. What is next? Thanks SHE.

Not all drug use, just this one. Which is legal and helpful to people, unlike some of the others. Nobody is forcing you to use it if you don’t want to.

Hey why not come out for cannabis ❓ With the likely reversal of Roe v Wade and its supporting precedents LGBTQ+ Rights in general and the gains made in the past 30 years will likely be reversed.

…and go move to Alabama if you hate gay people so much.

Why do you live here?

Actually, you should go move to Alabama because if we turn into red states and blue states, women and lgbt people in the red states will never have rights. Dilution is the way to win. This Ham person will never be relevant here in CA, so who cares what he says?

Actually, Roe v Wade is 50 years old, and what’s your point? The country’s going to hell, and we’re losing decades of hard-fought rights so we should all turn into a bunch of useless stoners? Great advice! You go do that. That’ll show ‘em.
