Bars in West Hollywood could serve alcohol until 4 a.m. if state Sen. Scott Wiener has his way.
The San Francisco Democrat’s proposal, a provision to SB 930, would allow a later last call in WeHo, Coachella, Fresno, Oakland, Palm Springs and the city and county of San Francisco — all areas that supported a failed effort to extend drinking hours in 2018.
“Nightlife is important in our culture, it’s important in our economy, and for a lot of cities, nightlife is important because it helps define us,” Wiener said.
The change wouldn’t take effect until 2025. The Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization is set to review the provision this month.

WHY is it necessary to have bars open all night? Are we not just contributing to alcoholism and indeed more crime on the streets? DIseased livers, pancreas, and other vital organs?

Indiana sucks. I was born and raised in that God-foresaken red state, so I can rip on it. Last call is at 3:00am. We were always pounding drinks up until last call. We all drove home drunk. You think that won’t happen in WeHo? You are sorely wrong.

If you need to drink till 4am I suggest you attend and enroll in AA! You have a problem! We have way too many DUIs and deaths due to drinking! Every night the news is terrible. WeHo should be part of the solution, not the problem!
You likely feel exactly the same way about people who want to drink until 1:45 AM, so what difference does it make? Has it occurred to you that there’s tons of people who are not on the same daily schedule as you because perhaps they get off work at different times? Apparently not, we’re all supposed to be on your schedule I guess. None of the comments opposed to having a later last call for alcohol have any specific rationale as to what makes 3 AM somehow more of a problem than 1:45 am drinking.
The biggest problem is the thousands of drunk drivers on the road coming to West Hollywood after the “last call” at their earlier bar.
If anyone wants to drink past 2:00 a.m. GO HOME. I guarantee none of the West Hollywood politicians who support this live near any of these establishments, and corresponding parking areas, that would be open all night. And yes, 4:00 a.m. is all night. Residents should be able to VOTE on this. Let’s solve the problems we have in this city and not create new ones.
Maybe before we let this change occur – Maybe ask our WeHo Sheriff’s Team how this will impact protecting West Hollywood and do we have the resources?

Nevada is a state that allows drinking on-premises 24 hours.I bet this proposal is a law to help California compete against Nevada.At the most,I can see the longer bar establishment hours on the weekend or for special events to attract more business.Otherwise,I don’t see the need for the longer hours on weekdays. The state could lengthen the hours,but it really is up to the bar owners to decide if they want to stay open longer.Some might decide the longer hours don’t work for them and close at 2 AM.
