Catherine Eng, a longtime resident of WeHo and community advocate for the city’s East Side, has been appointed to the Business License Commission.
Eng, a casting director and the founder of the WeHo East Facebook group, was appointed to the Commission by fellow Eastsider, Councilmember John Erickson.
Eng expressed her feelings about the appointment on Facebook.
“CALL ME COMMISH:for near 25 yrs, I have lived or owned a residence in the City of West Hollywood. for 21 of those yrs, I obliviously lived with little civic interaction and no real community engagement.Over the last few yrs, as I became more civically involved, I would hear Councilperson John Erickson say how much he LOVES WEHO. My answer was usually: “meh. love/hate”Well last night he appointed me to the West Hollywood Business License Commission- thereby INSURING that my stewardship begins and my love for this city, unfolds and deepens. You Sneaky Son of a Gun Thank you- for this opportunity, for this faith and for deepening my ties to this community Weho is HOME. This big city still has a neighborhood feel and now I have to protect and love it like this guy does (except: don’t ask for my cell phone number )”
Another amateur and Erickson camp follower. Not progress.
John, bring back your real hair color, you look happy in this photo.
I’m disappointed that our City Council is stacking our commissions with such loud proponents of cannabis, like Catherine Eng. If you want to enjoy cannabis, that is your right, but placing people on city commissions that have a background in working for cannabis companies and have a vested interest in pushing the cannabis cloud forward is disheartening and quite frankly, unethical and bias. Eng is a supporter of Erickson and Shyne and has now been placed in a position to approve any cannabis application that comes before her and the BLC. These appointments are very purposeful and push a certain… Read more »
Good grief.
Her relationship with Erickson gives me great pause.(And her Facebook post about her appointment certainly doesn’t have a professional tone to it).
Congrats to Catherine!
I’ve lived on the east side of WeHo for nearly 25 years, been active on numerous incarnations of “east side” community groups and have never heard of this woman.
Good luck to her and I hope she’s a strong (albeit recently motivated) advocate for east side needs.
It is refreshing to hear the words “longtime resident” attached to this new commissioner and I wish her well in her new role. Twenty-five years is a long time and I am certain she has developed a strong conviction to West Hollywood and its residents.
Mr. Erickson’s love for West Hollywood is belied by his disdain for transparent democracy in other areas, so it is difficult to read that praise with anything but a snicker of disgust. Air the candidate forum on WEHOTV! Democracy is bigger than West Hollywood, and democracy dies in darkness.
Congrats Catherine
Ms. Eng is tainted by her association with Erickson, but I will keep an open mind if she proves to be a good commission member.
Erickson proclaimed LOVE for West Hollywood is confused at best, and has very little to do with whether he is qualified to make decisions on behalf of residents.
He meets in the park in Saturdays. Plummer Park. Why don’t you take your complaints directly to him?
