I have a question regarding the Zone Text Amendment New Noon-Residential Uses in Residential Zones. Once
the City is paid off, where do the displaced residents go? I really couldn’t understand much of double talk but I
didn’t see anything that appeared to take care of PEOPLE.
It does sound like a lucrative plan for the City – bravo. However, there is not one mention of people who live
here and how this affects the quality of life for anyone who resides in an apartment that has now been taken
over by a Childcare facility, Public Art, or a train station. Are we supposed to go live in the street?
If the goal is to grow West Hollywood into an elitist City of only homeowners and high-end boutiques, then
this is a great plan. This is not a plan if you want to keep a diverse socioeconomic population then, what is the
plan for the PEOPLE who will become displaced?
I currently live adjacent to 2 restaurants and nightclubs. This is not a good plan. Whoever in the planning
commission approved these should come to my house at 6 am to listen to the Chef set up each morning at
Zinc Cafe Market, or on any afternoon or evening and hear the drunken laughter of all the employee parties
that take place at the “coffee shop” in the garden outside our windows at Marcell Von Berlin.
Next, we could go pick up all the red plastic cups, empty booze bottles, and cigarette butts on the street and
sidewalks outside of Raspoutine.
The fun never ends. 🙂 Thank you to whoever thought this trio was a good idea. I’d love to share the neverending experience with you.

So….is the author for or against denying the proposed zone text amendment? I can’t tell from reading this whether the author read the staff report.
Aside from pro or con, Planning Commission has been canceled for this evening with no apparent reason given.
I call it the Beverly Hillsization of WeHo … it’s been spreading like a cancer for going on 30 years and most the creative, interesting people that weren’t killed off by AIDS have moved out or aged out and given up the fight. AirBnB and corporate ownership of rental properties has destroyed the housing market world-wide, but especially in major cities. You are supposed to go away. Oh, there will be “many new apartments and condos” built, but they won’t be affordable, nor will they take into account that you might actually need a place to live during the time between demolition of your home and the opening of these new, shiny happy affordable units the developer throws in as a sop. But that is a small price to pay when those who aren’t directly affected can enjoy the “beautiful high street experience”- which you can as well, from the bus bench you now call home. Did the City ever consider facilitating interim housing for displaced tenants? Promises of obtaining a place “on the list” appear rather disingenuous especially when some of these “places” mysteriously seem to be acquired by individuals such as a fave RS Commissioner. Would a refurbished Holloway Hotel possibly suited some of these individuals who have demonstrated responsible behavior beyond the currently unhoused folks? I’m sure the City could meaningfully endeavor in this direction. Any other suggestions?
Raspoutine is in the location of a nightclub for more than 50 years. Based on your comment of being a renter, it would seem that you should have noticed that this was a club when you signed a lease. Zinc Cafe location has been a restaurant for many years, the former Le Pain was there prior to Zinc and before that it was a restaurant. This seems a rather insensitive and snotty comment to the author in which you make many assumptions. In a City that advocates fairness and sensitivity to all its residents, more consideration could actually be made for them through more thoughtful planning decisions. The City could rightfully hold potential developers to higher standards if they, the purveyors of progress, want to build projects in West Hollywood. Attention to residential units adjacent to the precious “high street” that you mention is resolvable through planning requirements. I don’t think it’s snotty. I think when you move adjacent to a commercial stretch, you know you’re going to have noise and extra foot traffic. Renting is never a sure thing. The only sure thing is home ownership. Not everyone can afford to do that. I myself could not for many years. Whenever I rented and the rent got too high or I no longer liked where I lived, I moved. Au contraire. One could easily perceive that the author of the article was in place prior to the stream of successive Le Pain & Zinc. I remember the building prior to Le Pain Quotidian moved in as I believed it was a Diesel clothing store not attracting noise. And the remarks were a bit snotty.🙄
