City staff members will have a busy springtime ahead of them if Council approves the four events Mayor Pro Tem John is hoping to get onto the calendar. Erickson continues to be the unofficial event planner among the city’s five councilmembers, having sponsored 21 out of 34 events the city hosted or sponsored last year.
PRIDE PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT
The second annual event, which last year drew 162 entrants to compete in the trendy sport that falls somewhere between tennis and pingpong, is tentatively scheduled for June 24 and 25 at Plummer Park.
HOURS REQUIRED OF STAFF: 50-75
COST: Built into current agreement between contractor Tennacity and Recreation Services Division
LAVO VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
Item 2.N would allow the Los Angeles Volleyball Organization (LAVO) to hold their tournament at West Hollywood Park’s Aquatic and Recreation Building on April 1 and 2.
HOURS REQUIRED OF STAFF: “Moderate impact on staff time and current departmental work plan”
COST: $1,240 in waived fees, including facility use and parking
‘AIDS DIVA: THE LEGEND OF CONNIE NORMAN’ FILM SCREENING
The celebrated documentary about influential AIDS/trans activist Connie Norman will be shown May 20 in Council Chambers as part of the city’s Human Rights Speakers Series.
HOURS REQUIRED OF STAFF: “Moderate impact on staff time and current departmental work plan”
COST: $2,000 (already budgeted as part of the series)
APPRECIATION LUNCHEON FOR SHERIFF’S AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS
This free event thanking the departments for their service offers the public a chance to meet the deputies and firefighters. The luncheon should also produce some valuable photo ops for Erickson and might lead to an endorsement or two next year, when he runs for re-election.
HOURS REQUIRED OF STAFF: 100-125 hours for determining a date and reserving a location, developing a
program, securing equipment rentals, selecting and managing catering and serving vendors, developing event communication materials and issuing invitations, securing parking, arranging photography, etc. 15-20 additional hours on the day of the event.
COST: $15,000 from the Special Council Program Funds budgeted for 2023-24
What a terrific asset to our city!
It’s almost as amazing as hop scotch!
The clown show gets bigger and better. Who voted for this quack clown
John Erickson is busy keeping city staff hard at work burnishing his own political credentials. That’s the sick part of politics. See where Sepi Shyne has taken it?
When will he be announcing a seminar on Hair Styles and Nail Polish Choices? Will that be interspersed with the Sepi Shyne’s Wellness soirées conducted by SS a self claimed Reiki Master whose personal attributes are diametrically opposed to the philosophy of Reiki?
The only recourse for these events would be to order lobotomy’s for the pair…..a two for one.
John Erickson PhD. Weho Social Director.
Cruise director of the sinking ship AKA the SS West Hollywood!
It was tragically evident last night at CC when Erickson was leading the meeting in Sepi’s absence. A supercilious cruise ship director vacillating between juvenile giggles and reprimanding the ever verbally menacing Annie Jump Vicente. Never in my life could I have ever imagined living in this silly scenario…it was bad enough to witness on line. Things were more professional in seventh grade.
Agreed, it was cringey to watch the giggles, the inappropriate interruptions, the awkward comments, and the attempts to keep order, but I do have to hand it to him, he kept things moving.
Could you imagine that happening in the US Congress? We are devaluing ourselves by selecting people devoid of dignity.
Wants to hold an appreciation lunch after voting to cut the department, what a phony.
He wants to avoid a recall .
The last one I fully support.
