Off Vine is getting ready to shut its doors forever.
The West Hollywood restaurant has been serving its own brand of California American cuisine for more than 30 years.
Off Vine’s last day will be Sunday, March 26. The owners encourage you to come enjoy brunch for the last time. The restaurant is also selling many of its items, such as an upright piano and the shark tooths that adorned the roof.
I am crushed they are gone. So many great memories at this location. Best food..great service..and tucked away…it was a rare find in what is becoming an unlivable city. So sad I found this out before I could eat there one last time! Thank you owers and workers for all your hard work!
Until today, I’d never heard of it. Listening to your comments, I’m sad that I never knew and got to enjoy it. Not that it would ever take the place of Off Vine, but perhaps you’d try “Solidarity”, which is on Lincoln in Venice, also in a Craftsman style house and also run by pretty good folks…….It won’t be the same, of course…..
Love you but Off Vine was never in West Hollywood. Right in the heart of Hollywood.
While Off Vine is/was technically in Hollywood – not WeHo – it was always a gay-friendly spot – I had many nice meals there over the years with friends and dates in that quaint yellow house – sad to see it close, but it had a great, decades-long run.
Weird – never heard of it, ever. Also NOT in West Hollywood. Who are you people?
OFF VINE is NOT in West Hollywood. Who does your research?
Exactly!
I’m sad. Very sad. This is my family holiday restaurant. In the 19 nineties we celebrated every one of my new boyfriends + holidays there, then it burnt down and then after rebuild we celebrated my sister and her relationships and after that we just went to eat and be happy they were there. Btw: Off Vine is just that, in Hollywood off Vine on Leland. This is Lana Turner country; but stepping into Off Vine was always like going home to Weho; warm and safe and festive 🙏🏼
This restaurant is joining a long list. West Hollywood is no longer what it was. Basics, Tex-Mex history. We can thank the Chinese Communist party for that flu as they called it. The USA should sue them for trillions along with the governor of California for shutting down the state while he was dying it French laundry with a bunch of political Acl Hacks in the worst run state in the Union.
Darling, you might want to put some blame on your hero Donald Trump, who ignored and downplayed the serious of an obvious global pandemic. He didn’t even encourage vaccines that work or encourage mask wearing that works. If California is run so bad, why don’t you move to a Trump state, all of which have insanely higher rates of Covid, and death rates of Covid, than your hated California. We’ll miss you. PS: China is a much more Capitalistic nation than the U.S. is, and also work on your spelling and grammar.
Donald Trumps Rx was to drink bleach.🥹🤪
He suggested that the properties of bleach might be formed into something that would work on humans. That kind of thing has been done many times before with substances that were meant for one purpose being made palatable for human use effectively.
Everything you said is factually untrue ….. WehoQueen!
Yeah like when he banned flights from China in the early days and you all called him racist…do some research “queen”. You are wrong on everything.
From what I understand, Basix and Marix are closed because the owners have been involved in a contentious divorce and the property hasn’t been divided. As mentioned below, Off Vine is a victim of urban development, not surprising given the last time I was there (pre-COVID) the street (Leland Way) had turned into a homeless encampment. While I don’t disagree COVID has decimated numerous businesses, your rant is misguided here and undermines all the other occasions you apply it to articles on this site.
Baloney, the restaurant was very viable. They weren’t forced out The owners of Marix and Basix are not divorcing, it’s a conspiracy theory. I talk to the manager all the time.
So come in from the cold and enlighten us about this “conspiracy theory” you speak of…
Oh stop our delusional crap. Please. You’ve no clue what you’re bitching about. Educate yourself on your Republican crap and I dare you to come back with a comprehensive statement.
This “worst run state in the union” has the 5th largest economy in the world while most red states are swimming in poverty. Put down the koolaid Mary. Better still, why dont you just go live in Kentucky since you clearly don’t appreciate living in an amazing place like California. Nobody will miss you.
The 63rd and current Kentucky governor is Democrat Andy Beshear, who took office on December 10, 2019.

Your stats are quaint, out of context, and meaningless.
How so? Seems clear to me!
Woke up, wake up please. Basic/marix is a closed due to family issues, don’t go on on rant blaming it on anything else. Weho’s bar and restaurant scene has never been stronger with new and updated spaces and crowds galore. Weho of course is not what it was, but it is itself in 2023, which is really good.
Looks like someone hasn’t had any sleep for a few years. Poor thing…
It’s not in Weho, for pity’s sake!
Why oh Why? No reason given. Often had lunch & dinner there as it was a favorite of vibrant 88 year old former nurse in the Polish Military that survived the perils of war and the Warsaw Ghetto whom I adopted late in life. It was also a fave of all her adopted young friends as well. It was the loveliest and most authentic place. Places like this are what is lacking in West Hollywood and now apparently vanishing from Hollywood as well. Sadder than sad.
A call this afternoon to one of the owners revealed that the lease is up and the property has been purchased by INVESCO as well as the surrounding properties and plants assured for a major development. As of now it has not obtained or attempted Landmark Status. One would not deter the project however the structure could be moved.
The family who owned it did not have a lease. They owned it.
They did apply for Landmark Status but were denied because the fire a few years ago meant everything wasn’t original, even though the replaced designs and fixtures looked the same.
Property sold for a huge new project.
The new project is the construction of a new apartment building next door and the space was needed for the entrance to underground parking.
West Hollywood restaurant?
It’s not in West Hollywood. It’s in Hollywood. South of Sunset and east of Vine Street. That’s Hollywood. I’ve eaten there for years.
Yup
It’s of great interest to West Hollywood because so many of us have gone there for many years and still felt like we were in the neighborhood. It was appropriate to be published here.
