The City of West Hollywood has been organizing a series of activities for over two decades to engage its thriving population of older community members during Older Adult/Senior Month, celebrated each May. In recognition of this month, the city has planned several activities for May 2023.
The West Hollywood City Council will proclaim May 2023 as Older Adult/Senior Month at their May 1, 2023 meeting. The City’s Senior Advisory Board will accept the proclamation, marking the beginning of a month of activities dedicated to celebrating the city’s older adult population.
The city will televise the May Senior Advisory Board meeting on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. During the meeting, the Senior Award will be presented, and important items related to the older adult community in West Hollywood will be discussed.
A calendar of programs will be promoted throughout the month, including those offered by Jewish Family Service’s Activities Department, the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Senior Services program, and the City’s Recreation and Arts Divisions. The calendar will include movie screenings, health-related lectures, and in-person workshops.
Unfortunately, due to the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic and the elevated risk the virus poses to older adults, the Senior Health Fair will not take place this year. Before the pandemic, the City partnered with Jewish Family Service and Cedars Sinai to organize a large health fair for Older Adult/Senior Month. Staff will continue to monitor health directives, evaluate community needs for the event, and work with the Senior Advisory Board to inform the event’s possible return in 2024.
The City of West Hollywood is committed to providing opportunities for its older adult population to engage with the community, learn new skills, and have fun. With a month of activities planned, May 2023 is sure to be a great celebration of West Hollywood’s older adult community.
