Shocking hit-and-run captured on dashcam in WeHo’s Rainbow District

The L.A. Sheriff’s Department is on the lookout for the driver of a Mini Cooper involved in a shocking hit-and-run incident Sunday morning in West Hollywood. Captured on a dashcam by driver Anton Strubchevskyi, the vehicle was seen striking multiple pedestrians in a crosswalk and even continuing to drive with one person on the hood of the car.

The event occurred at around 2 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and N. San Vicente Boulevard.

The footage, delivered to the Sheriff’s Department and broadcast by FOX 11, shows the Mini Cooper moving right from the left turn lane in front of Strubchevskyi’s car and into the crosswalk where several individuals were crossing the street. One pedestrian ran up to the Mini Cooper and hit the back window, causing it to shatter. Subsequently, the driver proceeded through the intersection, swerved left, and collided with three people in the crosswalk before driving away with one person still clinging to the hood.

“I was in shock,” Strubchevskyi told the station.  “I didn’t have time to think what’s happening. It’s like two, three seconds, boom. Something happening on the street. Wild driving, people flying around, one person on top of another car driving away. It’s just like a movie, you know? It’s crazy.”

Three individuals were taken to the hospital following the incident. The department is requesting anyone with information about the collision or the driver to contact them at 310-855-8850.

There is video on Twitter and wehotimes leading up to this where you see the fat thug chasing the car and then he smashes the back window which causes this incident. He clearly threatened the family inside of the vehicle and they probably panicked and feared for their lives.

The fat guy clearly escalated and provoked the incident, in addition to his friends causing havoc as cars were trying to drive down the street…

Clearly their intoxication of all kinds led to them breaking the rear window of the family in the car.

It’s the drivers of vehicles NOT pedestrians that have the additional responsibility of public safety including the responsibility to remain at the scene of an accident, especially when injuries are involved. Note that the entire chain of events could have easily been avoided if the driver would of taken a right turn and merged with traffic from the very start but, takes a sharp left turn circling to chase down people in the cross walk❗

Interesting perspective. I see the pedestrians clearly having the right away while the Mini enters the crosswalk from the left lane to take a right turn without stopping. While the actions of the pedestrians may have escalated the situation, the Mini’s reckless driving posed a serious threat to everyone involved and their criminal response further proves their guilt. While I probably wouldn’t have shattered their window, I am certain I would have kicked their car as well. And what kind of “family” is driving through West Hollywood at 2 a.m.?

And here I was thinking the escalating factor here was the driver traveling from the left turn lane across two lanes of traffic and through a crowded crosswalk while at a red light, but yeah, let’s blame the victims..,

Good goddess.
What’s the matter with people today?

And what in the world do you break a back windshield with? Certainly not your hand.
Bad idea being that provocative after a maniac with a vehicle tries to mow several people down.

Not mentioned in the article if the license plate number was taken. The plate number was indistinguishable in the dash-cam footage,so you hope someone would have a partial plate number.

The public safety commission is meeting tonight (05/08). Hopefully, the sheriff department will have an update for the residents.

The license plate was not taken. Otherwise we wouldn’t be reading this article because they still wouldn’t be looking for the car. hello?

They should talk to the fat guy with who bashed in the Mini’s back window. Seems like that’s what escalated the situation and led to this. Still doesn’t excuse the driver’s actions.

I was the recipient of a raging driver near Cedars Sinai last week and was, fortunately, able to get a couple of photos of the license plate and the driver in full rage. There was traffic, get used to it or don’t get behind the wheel. I sustained some injuries. Sheriffs Department will follow up with the DA’s office. I called attorney John Duran, who really helped.

The area should be well covered with Entertainment Police in this area on busy nights, oh, thats right, Council said no to Laurens suggestion of at least having one more during the last Sherrif cut meeting. Council is doing a great job in making Weho lawless.

Add possible 4am bar closures and we have an even more perfect nightmare.

The crowds on the street would be thinner the later you close the bars. 2 AM is early comparatively with other states as well as other countries. So you will surely have a larger crowd from midnight-two than you would from two-four AM. If bars were open until six AM, even less people.

Thank you. The anti-4 AM argument is so stupid.

This is socially unacceptable behavior that we usually see from drivers of trucks & SUVs with serious ego problems opposed to mini coopers drivers. By leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury Vehicle Code 20001 likely applies making this a serious felony especially because it appears to be intentional and in a crosswalk. Their insurance will be paying out a serious settlement to at least 4 people from what I can see, so they’ve narrowed their insurance options to the most expensive & least coverage for nearly the rest of their lives. Also just being a convicted felon in… Read more »

How awful. Let’s hope someone else has CCTV footage along the boulevard with the license plate. I suppose it could have been a lot worse. Sadly, with the amount of drugs, alcohol and cannabis the City pushes, we shouldn’t be too surprised.
