West Hollywood’s long-awaited survey to gauge whether residents want to keep or ditch rental electric scooters in the city is now open.

Disabled WeHo resident Myra Mikie Friedman led a push to have the city conduct a survey after complaints convinced City Council to halt the Dockless Micromobility pilot program’s path towards permanency.

The survey takes less than five minutes to complete. Results will likely be divided between residents and non-residents, as anyone is allowed to take the survey.

The central question the survey poses is “Based on your experience (either directly or indirectly), would you support a permanent program for shared dockless e-scooters and e-bikes in West Hollywood?”

If you oppose the program, you’re then asked to select from the following reasons why:

  • Shared e-scooters and e-bikes are not parked properly and create clutter on sidewalks
  • Shared e-scooters and e-bikes are unsafe to ride and could result in injuries to their riders
  • Shared e-scooters and e-bikes should not be in the road with drivers
  • Shared e-scooter and e-bikes go too fast and could be a crash risk to other road users

You’re then asked if you would support a permanent program if those concerns were alleviated.

Finally, the survey gets around to asking the million dollar question: Do you think shared dockless e-bikes and e-scooters should be banned in West Hollywood?

saw a very aggressive scooter rider speeding on the sidewalk almost hitting a mother and their child and a dog in front of Hugo’s on Santa Monica Blvd. the rider looked like they’d just gotten out of jail– or homeless. they were listening to music and were in a hurry to kill by scooter. but seriously, what was that mother thinking? walking on the street with child and dog? how dare she? nobody walks in west hollywood.

As a resident, I have been knocked to the ground and seen others knocked to the ground by aggressive riders on the sidewalks. When I address the fact that motorized vehicles are illegal to operate on sidewalks I am either ignored or harassed and threatened by the perpetrators. Until there is a system that causes these dangers to the public health to become inoperable on the sidewalks of our city they are going to eventually going to be the cause of death to some unfortunate innocent.

Now is the time for the scooter companies to stuff the ballot box. This is NOT a scientific study of the feelings of West Hollywood residents. This survey is a sham.

Let’s be honest, we know the survey will be stuffed with positive things paid out by the corporations…
