The humble stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard between Spaulding and Curson is having a renaissance moment, with several businesses entering the West Hollywood neighborhood and 70+ new residents getting ready to move in.
PleasureMed, the long-gestating “cannabis boutique” by the owners of Pleasure Chest, will feature a cannabis consumption lounge on the rooftop of its location at 7733 Santa Monica Blvd., next door to the adult store.
PleasureMed will be a “high-end retail environment combining a range of product offerings and educational resources that will cater to all levels of consumers,” according to the Emerald Village, a group that promotes the cannabis industry in WeHo.
A manager confirmed the rumor but would say no more except that they plan to open this summer.
Barely a block away, another cannabis consumption lounge is rumored to be opening inside the former Retrofit gym at 7624 Santa Monica Blvd.
Across the street, the La Terra Select West Hollywood mixed-use development is nearly complete, bringing 71 new apartment units to the neighborhood, along with commercial space on the ground floor.
The developments suggest economic activity will continue increasing on the East Side, just as its reputation grows trendier.

WH is winning the race to the bottom.
Time for you to move. What a bad life decision living somewhere that makes you unhappy. So many bad life decisions for you!
I thought there was a limit on pot shops. Seems like there’s one on very block of a joint smelly Santa Monica Blvd.
What about the supposed limited number of “cannabis purveyors” as they like to refer to themselves as rather than the local hawkers diversifying their current business types to adapt to pot? The city is becoming a stinking mess.
I did too. What happened to a small number in each category? Now you can’t go anywhere without the smell of pot in the air.
Sophisticated Slums of Cannabis Shops are still Pot Slums no matter how it is dressed up or marketed.
Just what West Hollywood needs… 🙄
Years and years ago we asked for neighborhood serving businesses for the east side! Sadly, these are anything but. ………and so it goes!
Neighborhood serving pot heads, and guards packing heat outside. Charming small town feel.
As a long time east side resident and dog owner who passed Calma and other local dispensaries multiple times a day, nearly every person I see entering these shops pulls up in a car. I see few locals frequenting these shops. So no, I don’t think many of us are excited about these new businesses.
You know how LA people love to drive, rather than walk. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of the people you saw in a car and then going into Calma may just live a few bloks away.
I live on the east side and have shopped at Calma and other local dispensaries. I am disabled and therefore use my car to get to these shops. Don’t assume locals don’t frequent these shops because of that.
Disabled people who can’t walk a long distance use cars to get to dispensaries.
New Pot Shops should hardly be described as a “renaissance”
Really shows the classiness of Weho.🙄😨
Yay, more pot shops! (Bloodshot eye roll.) I’m surprised California hasn’t changed the state flower from the poppy to the pot leaf.
