West Hollywood, in collaboration with its Women’s Advisory Board, is set to host its yearly Women’s Equality Day celebration. This event pays tribute to the courage, resilience, and unwavering determination of those who fought for women’s suffrage, showcasing what can be accomplished in a democratic society through united citizen efforts towards political change.
Titled “Women’s Equality Day – WeHo Takeover,” this special pop-up event will include displays and free giveaways to honor women’s ongoing struggle for equal rights. It will also commemorate the 19th Amendment’s centennial, which granted women voting rights in 1920. The gathering is scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the crossroads of Santa Monica Boulevard and N. San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood.
Additionally, the event will shed light on the 100-year history and current significance of the Equal Rights Amendment, introduced in 1923 and ratified in 2020, yet still unenacted. Attendees can engage by collecting complimentary sashes, buttons, voter guides, and more, and are encouraged to capture and share images on social media to advocate for voting rights, women’s wage equality, and support for the Equal Rights Amendment.
Local businesses in West Hollywood are also invited to join the “Women’s Equality Day – WeHo Takeover” by showcasing related signs, spreading the word, and providing themed specials. In conjunction with the pop-up event, the West Hollywood City Council will make an official declaration, and both the City Hall and the City’s lanterns over Santa Monica Boulevard will be illuminated in purple and yellow, symbolizing the women’s suffrage movement.
For over twenty years, West Hollywood has marked Women’s Equality Day through various means. It was the first U.S. city to publicly support pro-choice and has consistently backed both state and federal laws that protect and promote women’s reproductive rights and healthcare access. The City also advocates for the Equal Rights Amendment and equal pay for equal work, demonstrating a robust commitment to initiatives that champion women’s equality. The Women’s Advisory Board actively participates in numerous programs and events that acknowledge and uplift women within the community.

People rarely examine or contemplate the exponentially negative aspects of the feminism movement. It has largely produced legions of women who are highly reliant in aggressive behavior and not especially savvy about self respect and exercising diplomacy.
So, does this celebrate the “women” that pose as women and destroy protected spaces for biological women? Asking for a friend.
