Leaders of West Hollywood’s nightlife scene have organized events this week to help the relief effort for Maui’s wildfire disaster.
The cast of Vanderpump Rules cast is hosting a fundraiser at 9 p.m. tonight at SUR, located at 606 N Robertson Blvd., in tandem with a GoFundMe page seeking to raise $20,000.
The organizer of the event, Schaena Shay, has a personal connection to Hawaii, with family ties to North Shore.Donations collected from the event will be provided directly to families affected by the wildfires. Additionally, the Maui Humane Society and Food Bank will receive support from the funds raised. To maximize the contributions, Give Them Lala brands will be matching all proceeds from the night, and SUR has pledged to donate $10 for every order of goat cheese balls and every Big Pinky cocktail ordered.
On Thursday, the Naughty Pig at 8264 Sunset Blvd. will host a fundraiser starting at 5 p.m. and a karaoke show at 10 p.m to provide much-needed support to those affected by the fires. Its owner, Matt Robb, resides in Maui, where he owns another bar called Dirty Monkey. He informed KTLA that though his residence was spared by the rapid fires, many of his workers had narrow escapes from the flames.
The Pig is accepting donations of common necessities for shipment to Maui and has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to aid the Dirty Monkey’s staff.
As of Sunday afternoon, officials had reported 93 deaths from the wildfires, with around 4,500 individuals needing shelter. In West Maui, nearly 2,200 buildings were destroyed, including the entire town of Lahaina.
The tragedy in Hawaii has become the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over a century, with other survivors sharing similar horrifying stories.
