A woman was struck by an alleged drunken driver as she crossed the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Genesee Avenue, according to witness Michael Libitzky, who shared images and videos with WEHOville.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The woman required CPR and was transported to Cedars-Sinai in critical condition, Libitzky said. After refusing a breathalyzer test and failing field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department has notched 52 drunken driving arrests so far in 2023, and the department has conducted two DUI checkpoints within the past two months. There were 676 crashes attributed to driving under the influence in L.A. County last year, according to the California Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS).

The prevailing regulations appear to be inverted, as motorists prioritize their vehicles over pedestrians, so relegating the latter to a subordinate position.
