The Roxy Theatre is extending its 50th-anniversary celebrations with the addition of new events and performances to its fall schedule. The venue has announced the ‘Sunset & Vinyl Market,’ a record fair that will take place in the theatre’s parking lot on September 17 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair will feature vendors such as Rainbow Bar & Grill and Holey Grail, along with Los Angeles vinyl sellers like Record Safari and Deadly Wax.
The venue is also offering merchandise specific to its 50th anniversary, available for purchase online. The items feature the venue’s “Rockin’ R” logo and have been curated by Oscar Adler.
New performances have been added to the fall lineup, including two shows by Neil Young with Crazy Horse on September 20 and 21. These performances will raise funds for The Painted Turtle and Bridge School. Other artists added to the lineup are Metric, Ricky Lee Jones, and Tkay Maidza, scheduled for October 12, October 18, and November 7, respectively.
Previously announced acts for the anniversary celebrations include Wallows, set to perform on September 23, and Stephen Marley, who will be performing his father Bob Marley’s album ‘Live at Roxy’ on September 24.
The GRAMMY Museum will also participate in the anniversary events with an exhibit titled ‘The ROXY: 50 and Still Rockin’,’ set to open on September 17. The exhibit will feature a film screening and a panel discussion with industry professionals.
The City of West Hollywood will host a conversation between Lou Adler and Nic Adler on September 12 as part of the City’s Artists & Icons series. This event will coincide with a photographic exhibit at the West Hollywood Library, which will focus on The Roxy’s history and remain open to the public through May 2024.
The Roxy Theatre, co-founded in September 1973 by Adler and Valentine, along with industry figures like David Geffen and Bill Graham, has been a stage for early performances by artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, and Guns N’ Roses. The venue has also hosted comedians like Cheech & Chong and Richard Pryor.
For further details on the anniversary events and ticket information, the public is directed to The Roxy’s official website.
Where’s Ratt/Stephen Pearcy and The Go-Go’s, who share in the venue’s history? I wanna rock (or dance). Neil Young may put me to sleep.
Happy Anniversary, Roxy! This is going to be one special set of celebrations.
