WEHOville nabbed an exclusive video tour Wednesday of the not-yet-open John Reed Fitness center courtesy of Chief Operating Officer Colin Thomas.
Thomas and his team are preparing for Opening Day on Friday, but he took a little time to show WEHOville’s Larry Block around the luxurious and art-packed facility on Santa Monica Boulevard, which Thomas calls the gym “that West Hollywood deserves.”
John Reed is world unto itself, a wildly imaginative puree of might, tech and beauty. The spaces between its main attractions — world-class weight rooms literally dripping with gold, Tron-style spinning studio, high-end selfie backdrops and mini lounges as chic as any bar outside — are filled with art, from a God-sized Zeus, to a row of skull-topped thrones, Art Nouveau windows, marble galore and snakeskin slinking across lockers weight benches.

West Hollywood’s long-awaited new fitness center is hosting Open House days from October 20th to October 24th and giving all WeHo residents free access to the gym from 5 a.m. to midnight. The official Grand Opening will take place over the weekend of October 21st and 22nd, with special events running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. These include live music, a variety of classes, and unique features like a Recovery Lounge and a Glitter Bar. Attendees can also enjoy a selection of refreshments from various food and beverage stations.

This is what we’ve been waiting for all this time?! It looks absolutely horrid, … but it is two blocks away and is half the price of Equinox so I guess I’m gonna have to suck it up and pretend I’m in Liberace’s living room and Elvira’s bedroom. It seems very dark and foreboding; not a place I will enjoy hanging out. I loved all the natural light and the views at 24 Hour so I hope they haven’t covered those windows with velvet draperies.
The upstairs windows open to the outside street and air and full of light. The downstairs never had any light and has been opened up with lots of spaciousness. The whole space has been renovated and improved. Its not the dirty 24 hour fitness of yesterday.
