RECYCLING GIFT BAGS AND BOXES

Gift bags and boxes may be recycled if they have little to no decorations or excess coloring. Here’s how to prepare them for your recycling container:

  • Remove all the contents inside, including the tissue paper (which usually cannot be recycled due to having excess dye and short paper fibers).
  • Place any items with a glossy coating or decorated with foil, feathers, glitters, ribbons, or other non-paper content in the trash.
  • Break down and flatten bags and boxes and place them inside your blue recycling container.

Sustainability Tip: Consider eco-friendly gift-wrapping options such as reusable fabric bags, newspapers, and paper bags.

CART PLACEMENT AND PRACTICES

To ensure on-time and seamless collection service, please arrange your trash, organics, and recycling carts as follows:

  • Set out carts (wheels against the curb) by 7:00 a.m. of your regularly scheduled collection day.
  • Place carts side-by-side, spaced about one (1) foot apart and at least three (3) feet from parked vehicles or other objects.
  • Smaller barrels should be placed to the left (when facing the street) of larger barrels for better visibility.
  • Close the lids fully and remove any excess material. Save extra material for your next service date or order a bulky item collection. If carts are regularly overfull, consider increasing your container size or requesting an additional container.
  • Bag any loose paper/light material in order to prevent debris from escaping the cart during service.
  • Ensure carts are not blocked as collection trucks require unobstructed access. Do not place carts close to parked cars or mailboxes.
