A One Billion Rising dance performance will kickoff a series of events the city is holding to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of V-Day, a global activist movement to end violence against women.
The kick-off event will be held at Sal Guarriello Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Members of the city council will make comments, and dance group Flash Mob America will perform a dance choreographed by actress and dancer Debbie Allen.
If you’d like to be part of the performance, there will be dance lessons on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Plummer Park Community Room, or the day of the event, 9 a.m. at Sal Guarriello Memorial Park.
For more information, see www.onebillionrising.org.
Also, on Saturday, the city will recognize V-Day with a performance of “The MENding Monologues,” inspired by Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues.”
The show will explore gender violence issues from a male perspective.
Admission is $5. The event will be held at the council chambers, 625 N. Vicente Blvd. at Santa Monica. Parking is available at the library.
There is limited seating so reservations are encouraged. For more information, call (323) 848-6460.
