Investigators sought public assistance to identify a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a man riding a scooter Sunday in Hollywood.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a black sedan northbound on Western Avenue collided with the man on the scooter as he crossed the roadway between Sierra Vista Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard around 2:25 a.m. Sunday.
The rider was ejected from the scooter onto the roadway. The motorist continued northbound on Western without providing aid to the victim.
The driver of a silver Lexus southbound on Western also hit the scooter. That driver called 911 and remained at the scene.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics provided medical assistance to the man and transported him to a hospital, where he died.
The victim’s name was withheld pending notification to his next-of-kin.
Anyone with information was asked to call detectives at 213-473-0234.

The duty of care required by a motor vehicle driver is greater than the amount of care required by a pedestrian, bicyclist, or e-scooter rider.

Story is that a driver in SUV hit and killed someone who happened to be riding a scooter and not a damn one of the commenters expresses anger or even disappointment that a killer remains on the the loose.
What would make us all safer is if we enforced our traffic laws and penalized the bad actors.
You always seem able to muster enough emotional outrage and judgment on behalf of the entire city. You also make heady assumptions.
When you preach about enforcing traffic laws, can I assume you mean all laws affecting all modes of transportation?

Point clearly seen in the article is that the automobile and NOT the scooter was at fault. Imagine how safer it would be if we ONLY allowed Public Transit🚈 and Electric Scooters🛵 on Santa Monica Blvd.

Weho City & City Council Members have repeatedly shown that they are irresponsible opting for the latest bright shiny object offered by a two profit minded scooter vendors over the safety of their visitors and residents.
Unmistakable immaturity.
Western and Santa Monica is not ‘near’ weho and to put it under an ominous strobe light flashing “Crime Weho” is misleading to say the least.
Sad. R I.P., scooter rider. Heaven knows how many times I was almost hit by someone on the sidewalk going way too fast on one of those heavy metal machines. They need to be eradicated for everyone’s safety. Period. Scooters have always been designed for children to use in their own backyards. That hasn’t changed. Common Sense dictates they’re not safe on our streets or sidewalks by adults who can instead take the bus or use a car for everyone’s concern, safety, well-being, and comfort.

Actually, there have been several deaths of e-scooter riders in LA. I recall one in Santa Monica just a while back. The death rate is twice that of motorcyclists.
I’d like to know the stats for pedestrians injured BY e-scooters.
