A crazed man was causing havoc Friday afternoon inside the Bank of America on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, screaming and throwing objects inside the lobby.
Sheriffs surrounded the premises and kept the suspect inside the bank.
The individual was reportedly creating chaos at the nearby Starbucks earlier in the day.

Everyone responds to a high priority call. If there was another emergency call some of them would split off and go to it. You need to understand police when dealing with crazy or violent people. The more there, the less likely anyone gets hurt. Would you rather try and subdue a whack job by yourself or with just one partner? Swarming tactics reduce the risk of everyone getting hurt including the suspect. Watch a video on how they extract violent criminals from their cells and you’ll understand.
Crazy is fairly constant now days here. Watch your back!
Honestly, if this wouldn’t have been a bank id doubt they’d even show up timely..(even though its literally half a block from them).
Sammy – you’re confusing our deputies with the LAPD. Our deputies are on-scene before LAPD answers 911. One big reason some of us live here rather than across the city line.
This was handled so well by the sheriff, by both deputies and a mental health professional. Thanks to all for deescalating a volatile situation.
Just another day in West Hollywood. The unhoused predators have ruined our once-great city.
Sigh. Not sure but around 5pm cop cars appeared to be surrounded infront of Abbey and robertson corner too
Separate incident with a man yielding a knife and harassing people on the street at Santa Monica and Robertson.
Unfortunately, just another day in the neighborhood. While the city decides whether or not to spend MILLIONS on redesigning a street that doesn’t need any attention, we have people out of their minds roaming our streets. How about spending the MILLIONS on more police?
You get what you vote for. Enjoy.
I agree. The level of crime on our streets demands a police presence. We need police roaming our streets, not just the maniacs.
Sorry…but that’s not the New Democrat model.
I’m so glad that you have found out the problem, the left. You alone should be running for or holding a position in our city government and maybe one day President because, you alone, have solved the problem, let’s blame everyone else. It will never change as long as we have citizens like you that are so blind, short minded, close minded and unwilling to speak out with any type of intellectual guidance to help assist everybody in making this and other situations better. You should sleep well knowing that you are a genius and how well you have singly… Read more »
Exactly how would spending more on police stop a mentally ill man’s random act? We had 11 sheriffs and a health worker on site, so it was well handled. You are correct, it is a common event in a large urban area. If you can’t handle that move.
More police , the more people will remain checked and stay orderly, including mentally ill.
Yup. Not rocket science. Enforce the laws. When people know they can get away with bad behavior they do bad things. And good people pay the price.
Your entire argument is extremely flawed. You seem to think a mentally ill person chooses to act out like this. Like they just “decide” to be a menace that day. That’s not how personality disorders/mental illness work. Millions of more allocated to LASD wouldn’t have prevented this at all.
Get real.
Exactly how many officers are needed for a situation like this? They complain about people speeding on Fountain Avenue and causing accidents on a practically daily basis, and yet you never see that area patrolled or the speed limits actually enforced by deputy handing out citations. They needed about two officers at the bank, and the other nine could’ve been deployed to enforcing laws about much more important health and safety priorities. But, everybody loves a party!
The Weho motors handle most of the speeding issues and I’ve seen one of them quite a bit on Fountain with a radar gun. We can definitely use a few more but I guess it’s not in the budget. You don’t want to take money away from painting crosswalks do you?
