Mikie Friedman chided City Council on Monday night for not discouraging renewed calls from some members of the Public Safety Commission to reduce the number of deputies on the sheriff’s force:
“There are three things you cannot take for granted: people, your health, and your safety.
When you start losing people to death, disappointment, or they leave and they no longer are part of your life, you’ll realize that you should have appreciated them more, like that great guy at work who you took for granted and didn’t find out until he left that he did the work of three people.
Hell, I don’t have a pot to piss in, and I drive a 20-year-old car, and I have old furniture in a one-bedroom apartment. I live on Social Security and my limited savings, but when it comes to my insurance, I do not cheap out.
Why am I relating this?
@wehoonlineMikie Friedman chided City Council on Monday night for not discouraging renewed calls from some members of the Public Safety Commission to reduce the number of deputies on the sheriff’s force:
Because having great insurance saved my life. If I had had an HMO, I would probably be dead now.
Safety: At the Public Safety Commission meeting last Monday, when I heard talk about empirical evidence and KPIs and that not feeling safe wasn’t good enough, I thought of a couple of things.
First, Sepi, when you were threatened, you didn’t go to Block by Block. Not only did you go to the sheriff, but you wanted the bomb squad and dogs.
John, when you got death threats, did you go to Block by Block? No, I’m sure you went to the sheriff. Suddenly, your safety was not a given anymore, was it? The city should concentrate on spending money to guarantee the safety of the tax-paying people who pay your salaries.
Haven’t you learned anything from the last Public Safety Commission and Nika Soon-Shiong’s folly?
It’s sad how quickly you forget. Then there’s scooters. You put us in danger, not only from getting hit but from tripping and falling. Also, you force us to have to try to walk around and avoid delivery robots. You are taking our sidewalks and our safety for granted.
Please stop playing politics and start really giving a shit and stop taking us for granted because we’re the ones who vote for you.”
No city council member pushing FAKE public safety should be allowed to have Sheriff protection!!
You might believe there’s no way anyone could smear Mikie as a “right wing racist bigot” for her common sense positions. But you’d be wrong… only in Weho.
In this mecca of toxic ideological intolerance the mere failure to remove Fox News from your cable tv line up will be grounds for being labeled as right wing racist bigot. For the record, I have removed Fox News from my YouTubeTV channel line up on my television! I do, however, occasionally read an article in The Wall Street Journal, so I’m highly suspect as a capitalist pig. The years and years of watching Rachel Maddow is insufficient penance for my other curiosities. Bottom line: one dare not question or deviate from the orthodoxy of whoever was elected spokesperson for… Read more »
I was made aware of that ridiculous comment, and I also heard about your very eloquent defense of the three of us. Thank you so very much. We must be doing something right if someone feels they have to smear us with vicious falsehoods in order to try to shut us up.
Any time anyone uses the word “racist” about a White person nowadays, I ALWAYS immediately suspect it’s likely a made up accusation delivered by an envious, empty soul. So, that word is losing its impact.
A powerful statement and a simple question: What does a city owe to is residents? This citizen’s firm voice should not be a solo, it should be the first line in a chorus.
One has to admire Mikies tenancity when it comes to trying drill some sense and logic into this CC. Not sure how she finds the inner strength. Thank you Mikie for what you do.
It’s called fortitude and it’s a virtue in short supply in our world. Mikie never plays victim while championing issues, she just calls it as she sees it. She doesn’t mince words and often entertains to make her points. We need more treasures like Mikie in our midst.
Mikie is a West Hollywood gem! She calls it like she sees it. No BS and no spin.
Oh, Mikie, they’re so blind, they’re so blind, they blow our mind, hey Mikie, hey Mikie… You’ve been around this fight and that’s to prove them wrong, They think their “security” got it right, but we think they’ve got it wrong Why can’t they say goodnight? So you can send them home, Mikie… ‘Cause when they say they will, it always means they won’t They’ve givin’ us the bills, but, baby, please, baby, don’t Every night, you grill them all alone, Mikie… Oh Mikie, what a pity, they don’t understand You take them by the cajones when you take them… Read more »
WOW! thank you!! this is so cool! I wish I knew who you were! But whoever you are, your very clever comment is really appreciated!
Isn’t interesting the City Council requires several Deputies to be taken off the street to protect them instead of Block by Block, yet make the assumption Block by Block personal can replace Los Angeles County Deputies on the street.
Brava!!!!! 👏👏👏
