As the calendar turns towards spring there are only two declared candidates for the West Hollywood City Council race this November 5, 2024.
John M. Erickson will run for re-election with the mayoral title on the November ballot. Erickson finished second to Sepi Shyne in the 2020 election. Both Erickson and Shyne are in their first term on the City Council.
Commissioner George Nickle has also declared his candidacy for a Council seat. Nickle is the direct appointee to the Public Safety Commission by Councilmember Lauren Meister.
Counclmember Sepi Shyne is currently running for Congress for the seat currently occupied by Rep. Adam Schiff. Shyne has spent over half her term with eyes on the position. If Shyne is able to finish in one of the top two positions in the Tuesday March 5th runoff she would be ineligible to run for the West Hollywood City Council race. Shyne is considered a long shot with little chance of making the runoff.
There will be two seats on the ballot in the 2024 Council election.
Zekiah Wright, who came within 12 votes of surpassing Councilmember John Heilman in the 2022 City Council election, has not declared a candidacy for the 2024 race.
UNITE HERE Local 11 has previously provided support for Erickson, Shyne and Wright. If Shyne loses in the runoff it is widely expected that she would announce her run for re-election to the West Hollywood City Council.
WEHOonline reached out to a number of potential candidates who have previously shown interest in running for city council but as of early mid-Feburary West Hollywood City Clerk Melissa Crowder confirmed that only two candidates had filed the proper paperwork to date.
This means he’s not running for state senator, then.
Running for office is not about being handed funding of developers and having best friends in powerful positions that pass their powerful πΈ funding and endorsing big name friends. A leader is a humble approachable servant for years in a position. If they wish to leap to Senator elections without any actual humility or even sobriety or humbleness, I have to ask myself why they are so desperate to need to run for a position they have not earned. Sitting on 501c3 boards because you have good friends that invited you does not mean you understand complicated issues you never… Read more »
Tonight will be another evening in the West Hollywood Council Chambers featuring a taxpayer paid performance of the flamboyant and narcissistic Mayor John Erickson. HIS wokeness agenda will be coupled with his insipid grin, lots of thank you sooo much, as he along with the dreadful Shine and Buyers vote for everything the majority of the citizens don’t like.
No wonder I left. My Weho advocacy and residence there first started in mid-1990’s before these kids you elected were out of diapers π
Erickson has been on the wrong side of every issue that has mattered to me as a long-time resident of West Hollywood. He embodies the worst of the woke dogmas and has hurt our community.
he has been on the wrong side ever since he was on the planning commission! Some of his decisions were just ridiculous and some afterwards he even admitted he was wrong on like the gas station/car wash one that is going to make La Cienega and Holloway a nightmare!!And what about that preschool that was going to be practically at the corner of sunset and San Vicente that he approved? I donβt think that thing will ever get built. Hopefully Iβm right..
Oh no!! That is not a safe location for a preschool! I agree!!
Itβs going to take more than George Nickel, pleasant as he is, to change the endemic corrupt culture at City Hall that emanates from CC chambers.
We need a clean sweep of βLouseβLanger, βWigglyβ Wilson, βRancidβ Rivas, and a handful of UNCOMPROMISED candidates to replace both Shyne AND Erickson.
Hi West, I think George is worth getting to know. He’s put himself out there upfront and will endure a lot of negativity in the coming months from the entrenched machine. I think he’s got the resolve to deal with it. As to Louse, Wiggly, and Rancid, you are spot on. They are all part of the cancer of corruption and sweetheart dealings at city hall. Pay attention to the whistleblower issue and let’s be sure they don’t sweep it under the rug. The public statement reveals a lot about how they intend to deal with it, and the look… Read more »
Yes I agree, I donβt mean to disparage George and Iβm very happy he is running.
Looks like George has the duplicitous “free thinker” vote nailed down!
Oh no! π
Federal Whistle Blower Protection statutes protects any coming forward for any City oversight or evidence of violations of any names or groups and retaliation is illegal so all are safe, but there is a right and a wrong way to file it as a group. We were trained by 7 year Apprenticeship of CA licensed Investigator how to file reports and they are submitted through evidence and groups, no single names. If you want more info on how a professional Whistle Blower Report is submitted and where it goes, reach out to coalition. VAA.VICTIMADVOCATES@GMAIL.COM
What other job is Erickson going to do? He has no skills or experience for the private sector. Government or a Non Profit are his only options.
Thatβs half the City. Iβm constantly perplexed at how people manage to afford designer clothes, constantly go out, go to expensive gyms, yet itβs unclear where the money is coming from. Non-profits to the rescue?
The major source of his income is planned Parenthood which of course is taxpayer funded. He runs around on taxpayer expense to kiss the Pope’s ring and do his act. Somehow he belongs to every community group in the world. And you wonder what does he actually do for a living. Who would hire him in a real business atmosphere? He only got that job with planned Parenthood because that woman whose name sounds like a cul-de-sac who served on the city council believe she’s the second coming of possibly the greatest con man we’ve had in this city..
This is clearly a multiple choice question.
A. Angelyne
B. Jeffrey Sanker
C. Jeffrey Seymour
D. David Wilson
What is her name π? “Cul De Sac”?
He has a PhD to teach and an event producer team member.
We need leaders whose biggest concern is the community’s interest, not a personal agenda to show everyone they’re the gayest in the village. No. One. Cares. (And this is coming from a gay man.)
I agree π― with you. I liked my early years in Weho in the mid-90’s as a resident and advocate, before the millennials and the woke generation wanting to be in DC at age 30 π who would never think to stoop so low like me and do our donated daily 501c3 dangerous Interventions, or court advocacy or the grueling grunt work. I like leaders that are humble, approachable and good listeners who are easy, no drama and preferably sober leaders or at least no more alcoholic parties with powerful developer friends. I like Lauren Meister alot but sometimes she… Read more »
George is a sharp, adept, & decisive candidate who is one of the few people Iβve met in recent years, able to possibly create balance & harmony on our city council. He is a required entity.
Sounds good ππΏ I will support his campaign.
Fortunately for John Erickson, he is taking over as mayor from Sepi Shyne. At this point anyone would be an improvement and Erickson is personable and is clearly signaled he has a different attitude about the position. But we are faced with ongoing attempts on the Public Safety Commission to de-fund the Sheriff and City staff seems intent on narrowing Fountain to one lane in each direction despite opposition from the residents. There seems to be a genuine yearning for new leadership at City Hall that is responsive to the residents rather than outside interests.

Don’t know much about George Nickle but he’s got my vote. Have never liked Erickson & Sepi Shyne is toast.
Heβs quite accessible, make an effort to him, itβs worth it for the future shaping & culture of our city.
I will start my mantra for the election season: Find and support candidates who represent your interests. The outcome is determined by those who make the effort to vote, not by those who are simply vocal. As for UniteHere, although most of their members don’t vote in West Hollywood, they are skilled at controlling messaging.
I’m not a member of UniteHere but I live in West Hollywood and support most of their efforts.
No, no, that wasn’t the question.
These people who have taken over your namesake with their own twists are HYSTERICAL!!!!!
I, too, support unions.
And unions also raise the stakes – and wages – for many other workers.
Proud to support and help get George Nickle elected to the Council. We need his pragmatism, his adept and keen leadership style, his common sense approach to tackling big and small matters, his bold stance on public safety, and most importantly his empathetic care for all in the community. #Nickle4WeHo #NickleCares

I agree and we need strong media and more behind him. π₯ We have a team of media professionals that invested into top Network TV News Anchor guaranteed interviews and top publications on a very high level so the narratives are raised by media and interviews and podcast interviews and major media can make an unknown candidate larger than life overnight so our team can raise up the best true advocacy leaders around. I wont support any who display abuse of power past or agendas that damage the Collective Communication Consciousness of the city voices as a true leader does… Read more »
