About the Strategic Plan Project

Since 1990, the supposed guiding light of West Hollywood government has been the Strategic Plan, a sprawling document that broadly outlines a vision for the city and contains things like mission statements and goal points. It’s been 24 years since West Hollywood revised its plan, a process which was supposed to start in 2020 but was delayed by COVID.

Compiling a Strategic Plan is laborious, expensive work that requires a lot of time, participation — and consultants. Workshopping and brainstorming are major features. The finished plan is meant to be thorough and comprehensive, and its goals are supposed to reflect what the community as a whole wants.

The consultants City Hall has hired are currently conducting a slew of research industry activities — focus groups, surveys, studies, listening sessions, outreach. Gensler is responsible for delivering City Hall with the actual, finished Strategic Plan and overseeing the work of the two other consulting firms, Designing in Color and FM3.

Here’s how they describe the project:

WeHo 40 is the City of West Hollywood’s forward-looking strategic planning process. Rooted in 40 years of municipal history – and looking ahead toward 2040 – WeHo 40 will engage residents, businesses, and community members in setting priorities for the future.

West Hollywood signifies different things to different people in our community, but what unifies us is a sense of passion, optimism, and enthusiasm for continually making our city great. Together, we’ll discuss issues, challenges, and solutions as we sketch out the groundwork for a strategic plan that will assist West Hollywood in continuing to thrive in the decades ahead.

As a strategic plan, WeHo 40 will frame the City’s short-term needs, mid-term ambitions, and long-term goals. It will also recommit to a sense of shared purpose and reaffirm the City’s unique core values. Please join us to take part in creating the future.

How nice that they all get together to talk about the future! Why don’t they talk about how the city is in decline right now, and what to do about that right now??

Just walk around the street – windows bashed out, holes in the sidewalks, bus stops graffiti, filthy sidewalks, alleyways full of homeless, equipment at Weho park decayed. I guess that doesn’t mean decline anymore.
