Matt Damon buys condo at 8899 Beverly for $8.6 million

Actor Matt Damon has acquired a fourth-floor unit in West Hollywood’s 8899 Beverly Blvd. for $8.6 million, following in the footsteps of Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, who purchased a fifth-floor unit there last fall for nearly $9 million. 8899 Beverly is known as one of the L.A. area’s most luxurious condominium buildings, attracting a roster of elite residents.

Damon’s new pied-a-terre spans nearly 2,900 square feet and features two bedrooms and two bathrooms, making it an ideal L.A. base for the Boston native who frequently works in Hollywood. The unit, which was first listed last summer at nearly $9 million, offers stunning north-facing views of the Hollywood Hills from virtually every room, encapsulated by expansive walls of glass.

This residence is notably equipped with a 1,600-square-foot private terrace, touted as one of the most impressive outdoor spaces in the building. Interior highlights include a gourmet kitchen with high-end appliances from Sub-Zero, Miele, and Gagganeau and a primary bedroom suite that boasts panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills, dual walk-in closets, and a luxuriously appointed bathroom.

8899 Beverly, designed by the acclaimed architecture firm Olson Kundig, is the tallest residential structure in West Hollywood. Positioned in a densely populated area close to Beverly Hills and within walking distance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the building comprises 40 ultra-luxury condos with prices starting at around $5 million.

The building also integrates 15 affordable housing units on its first floor, offering a unique mix of high-end and accessible living options. Damon’s investment includes hefty HOA dues nearing $5,000 per month, covering amenities like a 24-hour concierge, a fitness center, a private auto stable for two vehicles, and a lush open-air space with a pool, spa, and dining area.

Despite the allure of his West Hollywood purchase, it is unlikely that Damon and his family will relocate from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in the near future.

The space in Southern California, although luxurious, would not comfortably accommodate his family of six, which includes his wife, Luciana, and their four daughters. Damon’s move to Brooklyn had already made headlines in 2018 when he purchased what was then Brooklyn’s most expensive apartment, necessitating the closure of a street to move his belongings via crane into his new penthouse.

“the tallest residential structure in West Hollywood”…huh?

Must be news to Sierra Towers. I would imagine a place like Empire West is also taller.

This is the building where the developer proposed a “poor door”, so the freeloaders in the so-called “affordable units”, (who pay a small fraction of what the fair market folks pay), could share all the luxurious building amenities designed for millionaires who pay lots of fees and taxes around town. The developer was forced to back away from the plan, see the Wehoville article August 6, 2014. The reality, where freeloaders around town can admit it or not, is that very wealthy people want to live amongst other very wealthy people. Some of the comments of that prior article were… Read more »

Lower-income people are not “freeloaders”. I will say it over and over again. West Hollywood is not only for rich people. It is lower-income people that created West Hollywood and they are here to stay, whether YOU like it or not.

You’re either in favor of a free market, or you’re not. If you’re not, you should consider emigrating to North Korea.

Exactly. Hardly free when 1% controls 90% of the wealth.

Exactly! The free loaders are the ones that make money off of other people’s hard labor.
