Cyndi Lauper will be immortalized in cement Tuesday, June 4, at the prestigious TCL Chinese Theatre, just two days after she serves as West Hollywood’s Lifetime Ally Icon during the WeHo Pride Parade at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. The event is expected to draw fans and media alike to the famed venue at 6925 Hollywood Blvd.

Lauper, a Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award-winning artist, has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. Her debut album earned her a Grammy for Best New Artist, launching a career marked by a distinctive voice, a flair for punk glamour and dynamic live performances.

In conjunction with the imprint ceremony, Paramount+ will premiere “Let the Canary Sing,” a feature-length documentary about Lauper’s life and career. Directed by Emmy-winning documentarian Alison Ellwood, the film explores Lauper’s rise to fame and her substantial influence on music and culture. The documentary, which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Festival, will be available in the U.S. and Canada on June 4, and in other regions, including the UK and Australia, starting June 5.

Lauper is also a dedicated advocate for various causes, including the LGBTQ+ community, for which she is being honored by West Hollywood. In 2008, she co-founded True Colors United to combat homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth.

I love, love, love Cyndi Lauper and first saw her at what was her very first concert outside of NYC, literally the week “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” was hitting radio. Maybe Cyndi should spend less time receiving questionable awards, and a little more time trying to raise her troubled son, who has been charged with multiple felonies like illegal gun possession and stolen cars. Her son also faces eviction from his new york condo for noise complaints and violent threats against his neighbors. Cyndi should work on her troubled child. Was Cyndi an absent mother? Perhaps we don’t know the complexities of this woman’s life. What we do know is that she continues to give far more to the world than many ever will. I will leave her personal demons to her in the privacy she deserves. I hope that others find the grace to do the same without cursory and conclusory judgment.

I guess what I’m saying is if someone is going to go around accepting awards for being some kind of humanitarian role model, the recipient should have their own family life in order. I admire her huge talent, but she appears to be of the Melissa Ethridge child-raising mentality, which is throw a lot of money at the troubled kid, and go around accepting awards. It never ends well.
