Artist Dan Sulzberg is ringing in WeHo’s holidays with his signature funky style.

Since 2016, West Hollywood has commissioned artists to create visual artworks that celebrate the winter season and beautify the city on digital transit shelters and street pole banners. Sulzberg was chosen through an open call for artists. Past artists have included Shag (also known as Josh Agle), Steven Rahbany, Mona Tanksley, Sophie Morro and Joey Deruy.

Street pole banners featuring the artwork from this year and former years will be on display along portions of Santa Monica Boulevard, Melrose Avenue, La Brea Avenue, Fairfax Avenue, and N. San Vicente Boulevard.

Daniel Sulzberg is an award-winning illustrator and writer based in Santa Barbara. His vibrant, whimsical, and detailed illustrations are heavily influenced by his 1980s upbringing, marked by comic books, Nintendo games and Saturday morning cartoons. This nostalgic inspiration is evident in his unique style, which he channels through his creative studio, Danvillage Illustration.

Throughout his career, Sulzberg has collaborated with a diverse array of clients across various industries. His portfolio includes work for prominent publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times. In the corporate sector, he has partnered with brands like Red Bull, Nike, Google, Facebook and Sesame Street. His artistic contributions also extend to the sports world, having created illustrations for Major League Soccer, the National Hockey League, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tottenham Hotspur.

Before establishing himself as an illustrator, Sulzberg ventured into screenwriting. He contributed to the CW’s television series “Smallville,” which explores the early life of Superman. This experience in storytelling complements his illustrative work, allowing him to craft engaging narratives through visual art.
