While the fires rage throughout the Los Angeles area, West Hollywood is not in any immediate danger. It is a good idea, however, to take time to be prepared. Here are a few emergency preparedness tips from Bobbie Lace, member of the Norma Triangle Residents Association:
- Prepare a “grab and go” bag with a change of clothes and medicine.
- Fully charge your cell phone and put a charger in your “grab and go” bag.
- Put flashlights and batteries where you can easily reach them.
- Leave a pair of slip-on shoes near your exit door.
- Put important documents in one place that you can easily access. If you can, scan or take photos of all legal documents that are difficult to replace (passports, birth certificate, etc.) and email the copies to yourself.
- Put pet carriers near your door, plus any pet medicine, leash, and pet food.
Select a family friend or relative who lives out of the area to communicate with in the event that you are forced to evacuate. - Park your car facing out to leave safely in the event the power is off.
- Hose down your bldg. and all vegetation and the roof.
- Be sure your garage door can be opened manually in case the power shuts off.
- Take photos of all your valuables in the house, for insurance purposes.
