LA County Sheriff’s Capt. Gary Honings will be named the new captain of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station.

Honings has been stationed in West Hollywood several times before, most recently for five years as the operations lieutenant under Capt. Buddy Goldman and Capt. Kelley Fraser. In fact, Honings served as acting captain at the West Hollywood station in 2010 during the time between Goldman’s departure and Fraser’s arrival.

“We are pleased that Captain Honings is returning to our station,” said City Manager Paul Arevalo. “The Sheriff’s Department has once again provided the City of West Hollywood a number of well-qualified candidates to command our station. In the interview process, Captain Honings rose to the top because of his experience and knowledge of our community.”

A year ago, Honings left the West Hollywood station to become the chief of staff of the sheriff’s department’s field operations region 2.

“Gary Honings is very knowledge about the city, the people and the issues,” said Mayor Jeffrey Prang. “I think he’ll be an exemplary captain. I’ve known him for a long time and have a lot of confidence in him.”

Prang was not sure when Honings will take over the West Hollywood station, but said it would likely happen fairly soon.
