Flywheel Sports, which acquired Meaghan Kennedy Townsend’s Up Dog Yoga and Cycling, has announced it will reopen the space under its own name on April 13. Racked LA reports that Flywheel also will open its Larchmont location, at 147 N Larchmont Blvd., on that date.
Flywheel, based in New York City, has studios in 18 cities including Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Dubai. Its signature exercise is a 45-minute cycling session. Flywheel has said it will continue to offer yoga classes and other Up Dog exercises at the West Hollywood location, which is at 8599 Santa Monica Blvd. at Westmount.
Townsend opened Up Dog, located above Starbucks at in 2010. It quickly attracted a following, with clients said to include celebrities such as Kyra Sedgwick, Drew Barrymore, Justin Timberlake, Nicole Kidman and Cameron Diaz.
Flywheel, founded in 2010 by Ruth Zuckerman, one of the founders of SoulCycle, will compete with SoulCycle, which opened at Sunset Plaza at 8570 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood last year.
