West Hollywood’s Taxi Coupon Program is ditching its coupon system and moving to an electronic card beginning Monday, July 1.
The program, for residents who are 62 and older, or disabled, will allow riders to present a taxi driver with their card and the cost of the trip will be deducted from their account. Cards cost $8 and are worth $28 in taxi service with a maximum $14 per trip. Users cannot use the card to include tips for the driver.
Passengers will get a receipt from the taxi driver for the trip, which will also show the amount remaining on the program card. The balance can also be checked by calling (310) 981-9303.
All coupons will expire Monday, July 1.
Just as with the old system, passengers will call the same taxi companies and ask for a “West Hollywood” taxi.
New cards will be mailed to current program participants in late June. Current Taxi Program customers should continue to write checks in the amount of $8 payable to the West Hollywood Taxi Program, and mail them to P.O. Box 74487, Los Angeles, CA, 90004. Remember to write the code ID on the check memo line.
On July 1, $28 of fare value will be added to the program cards.
New applicants may download an application form and more information about eligibility at www.weho.org or call (323) 848-6510.
