PHOTO GALLERY: Wedding Bells Ring for Same-Sex Couples in WeHo

Although it was initially expected to take about a month for same-sex couples in California to be able to get legally married, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals promptly lifted the stay that had kept the ban in place. In some parts of the state, same-sex couples married as early as Friday, June 28 — just two days after the Supreme Court decisions on Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act.

The first opportunity to legally wed in WeHo was on Monday, and the Creative City celebrated with weddings in the courtyard of the library. Several city officials were deputized so that they could serve as officiants, and they offered their services at no charge. They performed 139 ceremonies that day. (They continued to offer the service on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday; couples can make an appointment to be married by a council member on Thursday.)

Here are some of our favorite photos from the historic occasion:

Sallee and Andrea Taylor were among the first couples to marry in WeHo on Monday. They thought they'd "slide under the radar" but found themselves fielding lots of questions from eager media outlets.

Oh and more, more pictures. This is “our” wedding album too – for all us who are straight and gay – this is what we longed for for so many years. LOTS MORE PICTURES!! WeHoville might want to consider a “Weho Wedding Album” feature.

Oh Frabjous Day – Calloo, Callay. This is so joyous to behold and to finally see. I am delighted for our state, our city and most of all for the patient, in love couples who have waited for so long to simply get hitched. May they be joyful until 120 as they say in my tribe and may they all live very happily after. Equal=Equal.
