Construction Noise
The city permits outside construction only Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. On Saturdays, construction is permitted inside a building between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. No construction is allowed on Sundays. The city may grant an “extended hours construction permit” if the applicant can make the case that construction needs to be done outside the normal permit hours and will not create an unnecessary burden on the neighborhood.

Helicopter Noise

Loud Music
West Hollywood’s noise ordinance bans commercial establishments adjacent to residential areas from playing music between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. that is “plainly audible” 50 feet from its source. Exceptions are made when a nightclub or hotel is granted a special permit (businesses are allowed 12 a year). If you hear loud music from a club or other venue, call the city’s Code Compliance office at (323) 848-6516 at any hour. The recorded message will leave you thinking your problem won’t be addressed until the next day. Ignore what it says and go ahead and leave a message, stating the time of your call, your address and where you think the noise is coming from. If you’re calling on Thursday through Monday night, your message will be transmitted quickly to a city Code Compliance Inspector who will show up to determine if the noise ordinance is being violated and ask the business to stop. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, when the inspector is off duty, you must call the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Office (310.855.8850). If the loud noise is a recurring problem, email Jeffrey Aubel, Manager of Commercial Code Compliance, at jaubel@weho.org.
