Krekorian said he is “deeply humbled” by encouragement from “neighborhood and civic leaders, business and labor representatives, environmental activists,” but he wants to focus on his current task. Krekorian, who represents LA’s Second District, is serving his first term on the Los Angeles City Council. He will be up for re-election in 2015.
“The people of the San Fernando Valley entrusted me with the responsibility to change the culture of City Hall, increase the voice of the people of the valley, create new jobs and economic vitality and make our communities safer, and I take that responsibility very seriously,” Krekorian said.
Duran also is up for re-election to the West Hollywood City Council, on which he has sat for more than 12 years, in 2015. It is expected that he will campaign for re-election to that seat if he fails to win the 2014 election for county supervisor.
Duran’s only announced opponent for the supervisor seat is former state Sen. Sheila Kuehl. Kuehl, a lesbian who has been active on LGBT issues, is expected to be a formidable opponent for Duran, an openly gay man and a lawyer.
Former Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel, who recently made a failed bid for Los Angeles mayor, said last month she planned to decide by some time in November if she would run for the supervisor’s seat.
The county’s Third District includes the San Fernando Valley, Beverly
Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu, West Hollywood and Universal City.
Yaroslavsky will be required by term limits to leave his supervisor’s post in 2014 after 20 years on the job.
frankly, I don’t have a problem with duran. he seems to have been cleared of any wrong doing in the credit card misuse, so that concern is gone. duran comports himself well, during council meetings, and his attempt to bring issues and debates into more thoughtful analysis is appreciated. he’ll have stiff competition with wendy and sheila in the race for supervisor. what may help duran is that the gals may cancel each other out, split the vote and donors. duran may also come across as ‘the fresher’ of faces in the district as wendy and sheila have a great… Read more »
Paul Krekorian is not running because he was just elected to the LA city council and “he takes that responsibility very seriously”. wouldn’t it be nice if some of our council members felt the same way about WeHo?
it will be interesting to see if the 7% of WeHo residents who voted for Duran in the last city council election will now vote to get him out of WeHo. personally I’m still undecided…
