Gay Michigan State Spartans to Celebrate in WeHo on NYE

On the banks of the Red Cedar,
There’s a school that’s known to all;
Its specialty is winning,
And those Spartans play good ball;
Spartan teams are never beaten,
All through the game they fight;
Fight for the only colors:
Green and White.

If you hear that while walking down Santa Monica Boulevard in Boystown tomorrow night, you might want to stick you head in Gym Sports Bar and join in. The Michigan State University Alumni Association and its GLBT Alumni MSU SpartansGroup will be gathering at the bar at 8737 Santa Monica Blvd. near Hancock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate the appearance of the MSU Spartans at the Rose Parade.

A special guest will be MSU alum and West Hollywood City Councilmember Jeffrey Prang. Also attending will be Brian O’Connor, a drum major in the 1988 Rose Bowl, and Don Guadard, who wrote and got passed in 1972 a law banning LGBT discrimination in East Lansing, MI, the first in the United States.

If you’re worried about carrying the Spartan tune,  Sparty, the official MSU mascot will be making an appearance to lead the crowd in cheers along with the fight song.
