Hotelier Jeff Klein is holding a meeting on Feb. 12 to outline his plans for renovating the San Vicente Inn, the gay clothing-optional motel that he purchased last year.

Neighbors of the property, which is at 845 San Vicente Blvd. north of Santa Monica, have been invited to the meeting. It is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza hotel conference room at 8585 Santa Monica Blvd.

The San Vicente Inn had long been known as a haven for drug users until its purchase by Klein, who also owns the Sunset Tower hotel and the City Club hotel in Manhattan. The bungalows that make up the inn have been designated by the City of West Hollywood as local cultural resources because their design reflects what is called the Old Sherman Theme, named for Moses Sherman, the railroad developer who in the late 1800s and early 1900s created the community that now is West Hollywood.

Klein has proposed a $15 million conversion of the property into a luxury inn whose rooms would rent for $250 to $300 a night. Currently that are available for as little as $79 on certain nights. The San Vicente no longer would be a gay-focused, clothing optional hostelry.

Plans presented to residents at a meeting in December called for preserving the exterior of most of the Sherman bungalows and adding a restaurant with a liquor license and a building that would be 45-feet high. All in all, the renovation would increase the number of rooms from 29 to 33.

I hope they do something with the building directly behind them (KLEAN) on Hilldale which I think is part of the purchase. They could use a little fixin’ up!

they have already approached us to buy our property on larrabee for parking but so has the developer who is tearing down the post office for a hotel so I guess it will be a bidding war

I plan on going to the meeting. I’m sure Mr Klein will have some more details and architectural renderings. I support his vision for the restoration and reuse of these Old Sherman bungalows. It would be a real improvement to them and the neighborhood. Yeah, parking will be an issue, but I hope that any problems will find a workable solution for the neighborhood. And it would be cool to see a lighted crosswalk connecting big side of the properties.
