LA Puppet Fest 2014, back for its second year, opens tomorrow night with an “April Fools’ Puppet Ball” at Mickys.

The Puppet Fest is a greater Los Angeles celebration dedicated to promoting the art of puppetry through performances and workshops with events in places ranging from Santa Monica to West Los Angeles. Over 25 events are scheduled, many appropriate for children and families, as well as adult-only programs. Among those participating in this year’s LA Puppet Fest are Puppet School, Heather Henson’s Handmade Puppet Dreams, LA Guild of Puppetry, Little Stage Puppet Theater, Bob Baker Marionette Theater, Rogue Artists, Sock Puppet Theater, Beth Peterson, Leslie K. Gray and Gina Pavlova.

The opening night party at Mickys, 8857 Santa Monica Blvd. near Larrabee, features  DJ Eric de la Cruz, performances from Puppet School and a costume contest with prizes. More information is available online at www.LAPuppetFest.com. Admission, $15, is limited to adults ages 21 and over. The event begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m.
