Affordable housing iconPeople with questions about affordable housing in West Hollywood are invited to a meeting this Wednesday afternoon.
The meeting will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. in the public meeting room at the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. north of Melrose. Hosted jointly by the city’s disabilities and senior advisory boards, the meeting will feature speakers from the Housing Authority of Los Angeles and West Hollywood Community Housing. It also will be broadcast on the WeHoTV public access channel.

In West Hollywood, 20 percent of new apartment units must be affordable units, says Jim Chud, chair of the West Hollywood Disability Advisory Board. What exactly that means varies; some units are designated for seniors, or for people with disabilities. The meeting will offer an opportunity for people to learn about the requirements for low-income housing units in new buildings under construction in WeHo. Free parking (with validation) is available in the West Hollywood Park parking garage.

Representatives from the city’s inclusionary housing program, from the West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (WHCHC), and from HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS) will all share up-to-date information, according to a city press release.

“This is a great informational session, and it’s a chance to ask the experts,” said Chud, who called the meeting part of a “new more active stance” for the disabilities board.

Chud said that the board is eager to help people and ready to take a more proactive approach to planning programming. “We’re sort of taking the reins this year … This is just the start,” he said.

When the meeting adjourns, the memory of Lee Myers, the director of West Hollywood Community Housing (WHCH) residential services, will be honored. Meyers died recently.
