Dollar SignThe West Hollywood City Council on Monday will consider raising the hourly wage its contractors must pay their employees by 1.09 percent to $12.02 an hour. Workers without health benefits would be paid $13.33 an hour.

The city adopted a “living wage rate” in 1997. The “living wage rate” is higher than the minimum wage that usually is set by state governments. It is intended to ensure that working 40 hours a week will make enough money to pay basic housing, food, utilities, transportation, health care and recreation expenses.
