This year’s State of the City conference, hosted by the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the City of West Hollywood, will focus on the revitalization of the city’s east side.
The June 18 conference, titled “State of The City 2014: Eastside Get Ready for Your Close-up,” is sponsored by Faring Capital. It will look at the city’s efforts to redevelop that once stagnant area, which now is home to two new apartment buildings and others under construction along with major retail developments.
As part of the conference, Erik Logan, president of OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, will be interviewed by Robert Kovacik of NBC 4. OWN recently decided to move its headquarters to The Lot on Santa Monica Boulevard at Formosa. Mayor John D’Amico and City Manager Paul Arevalo also will speak about the city’s plans for the east side.
The Chamber will honor two companies, Monarch Group and Essex Property Trust with economic development awards in recognition of their development of the Huxley, an apartment complex at La Brea and Fountain avenues, and the Dylan at Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea.
The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Lot, Sound Stage 7, at 1041 N. Formosa Ave. with the entrance on North Poinsettia. It includes a lunch prepared by chef Gary Arabia. Tickets, $85 for chamber members and $125 for non-members, can be purchased online or by calling 323-650-2688.
The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes local businesses.
Revitalization. Is that code word for increase the WeHo tax base by making things so dense that SM Blvd is gridlocked 12 hours a day rather than the current 6? Does it matter to anyone that the impact of any new east side development greatly impacts the people living one block south and those living two blocks north, that is those outside the city limits of West Hollywood, who will not benefit from an increase in the WeHo tax base?
Very interesting developments. The event is to take place on The Lot inside sound stage 7, the same property and sound stage which the city once approved for demolition because they deemed it an eye sore. Interesting indeed!
I think the Eastside Working Group should be invited and included.
