A group of Australians that includes DJ Grant Smillie will ask West Hollywood’s community planning director today to reconsider its petition to open a restaurant with a rooftop dining patio at the northwest corner of Melrose Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard.
The city postponed a decision on the request in July after determining that the restaurant wasn’t able to provide sufficient parking. Botanical Hospitality Group now has negotiated with Lift West Hollywood, a gym across the street, for access to parking there late at night.
As a result, Community Development Department staffers are recommending that the request be approved.
The restaurant, which will be called EP, will be on the second floor of a building at 603 N. La Cienega Blvd. at Melrose that now is under construction. The outdoor dining area above will be called Long Play.
In addition to Smillie, the owners are David Combes, a real estate executive from Melbourne, and Ashley Hart, the Australian model. The chef will be Louis Tikaram of Sydney’s Longrain restaurant. The menu will have an Asian influence.
The hearing on the request will be at 5 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room of the West Hollywood Public Library at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd., south of Melrose.
sounds good, except for the menu with an asian influence. how about something more unique…like really amazing plant based food?
What a great addition to our neighborhood. Our city is really lacking in outdoor seating with a view. Ahem Sunset Strip. Ahem Boystown.
