An explosion at the Courtyard Condos at 950 Kings Rd. this afternoon sent one man to the hospital and led to the closing of the block between Romaine and Willoughby.
Rick Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said the explosion was caused by an air conditioner on the roof of the three-story condominium building. A man, apparently working on the air conditioner, suffered second-degree burns. Flores said the air conditioner had leaked a small amount of ammonia. No other injuries were reported.
