A man apparently shot himself to death in the parking lot of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, authorities said today.
Lt. J. Munson of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station confirmed that homicide detectives and the coroner were investigating the shooting as an apparent suicide and that the deceased was a man. The man called the sheriff’s station from the parking lot, which is at the corner of Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards, and said he was going to shoot himself before he fired the fatal shot, Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said. Deputies responded to the parking lot and found the dying man.
The sheriff’s department did not disclose if the victim gave a reason for his suicide or explained why he shot himself in the parking lot of the sheriff’s station. The man’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The shooting was reported at 10:24 p.m. Saturday. Paramedics did not take anyone from the scene.
I would like to know more about the man and possible motivations.
The city’s idiotic crossing walks could be nominated as a place where you have no intention of committing suicide – yet the dreadfully run WEHO City Hall makes this an unwanted option… they should call them suicide crosswalks…
Because they are so poorly planned by an overpaid bureaucracy that needs to be cut in half. Including the salary of the “city manager”!
Kris, that’s a little dramatic. Nobody said they’d “pass out from shock.” Just pointing out that its inappropriate, not to mention insensitive. The graphic provides shock value, where its not necessary.
@Kris So you think there would be nothing wrong with a picture of a noose next to a story on Robin William’s hanging suicide? It’s an issue of sensitivity and avoiding sensationalism. So yes, it’s extremely distasteful.
this website uses every opportunity to promote images of violence and guns. theres a deep rooted issue here.
Thank you kris! People are over sensitive anymore. Caaaaalm down peeps!
Actually, “the cartoon logo of a hand holding a gun” would seem totally appropriate “for an article reporting on a suicide” since a shooting such as this can only be carried out by the man’s “hand holding a gun.” If an artist’s rendering is so distasteful, I can’t imagine how you’d all react to a photograph of a “hand holding a gun.” Pass out from shock, maybe?
Staggeringly bad choice.
Coby, I agree.
The cartoon logo of a hand holding a gun is totally inappropriate for an article reporting on a suicide like this.
